On the coattails of Heaven spelled as Nevaeh, I bring you a name I just saw, Rehtaeh. Get ii? It's Heather spelled backwards! Face palm!!!!

As a NICU nurse, my mom took care of a baby named Semaj. After his father, James. *sigh*

Hahaha I joked with my husband that we should name our daughter Eiram because it's my middle name spelled backwards! But no.

Wow. Does this mean we're in for a slew of kids named Refinnej, Terb, or Derf? LOL

Derf is an appropriate word for what these parents are doing. It's beyond Derp. It's Derf.

Are we actually going to mock the name of a teenager who committed suicide after she was raped and bullied? (Unless there are other Rehtaehs in the news lately.)

This. I'm all for questioning the sanity of a name choice, but at least mention context. Incidentally, I was aware of the incident and didn't connect the Heather-backwards thing.

Yep. I literally just read the article about it before coming over here. Her poor parents, it must've been so hard to watch their child suffer through ridicule and depression and so much constant bullying. I hope her spirit is at rest now.

Seriously. I was really taken aback by the tone of this post.

Really hoping it's just a coincidence with bad timing...

First, I feel horrible that this poor girl had to go through something so horrible. As someone whose been through all three of those things I know it's simply overwhelming and horrible.

Her name still sucks, just because of what happened does not make her name ANY better. No one was making fun of HER, more of her parents who named her a HORRIBLE name. No one here (I read all the comments) made any comment about her as a person or her troubles. Her parents saddled her with a horrible name and well what happened to her was not the point of this post. People don't become untouchable upon death.

Wow, I don't know if that makes it better or worse. Ugh, I truly dislike the backwards spelling trend. On a different forum there was a person (still not sure if it was a troll or not) who was set on using names like Evol and Ecaep. Because it makes it meaningful if it's backwards. Oh, and off the wall stuff too like Ospice. It was definitely, um, not my style. I mean, your kid, your choice but wow.

I kinda want to say Reh-tay-uh. Could be wrong.

I just watched a news video about it. That's exactly how it's pronounced, emphasis on the Tay.
