Some Names

Sisters from a birth announcement in my alumni magazine: Anna and Mia
Am I the only one who sees the problem with this? I really am curious because I don't know how much it is in the public consciousness.

Seen on Facebook:
Ava Elizabeth joins big sister Adelyn
Lincoln Robert (newborn)

Finally, I came up with a combo yesterday that I absolutely love; however, I don't like any of the nns so I doubt I would ever use it: Wilhelmina Josephine. I still love it though.

Screams ED to me but I'm biased, I guess you could say.

Lol if I was biased toward erectile dysfunction, not sure what that'd mean for me!

I don't get what you mean about Mia and Anna? Mia I think if my grandmas dog because thats her name...or Mia from Princess Diaries. I have no other recollection of these names :)

Teen Mom Leah just had her third Addalynn but I like the above spelling better.

I LOVE LINCOLN. Is it a girl? I know Dax and Kristen Bell just named their daughter Lincoln and I love it. :))))

Anna and Mia scream eating disorders to me. It would have been worse (in my opinion) if it was spelled Ana. That aside, they're both good names, and if they were nicknames or something I'd like them more, because I feel it would take away from the Ana/Mia thing.

I like your combo, but it feels a little long for me and I also dislike the nickname choices.

I see no issue with Anna and Mia? (haven't read the comments but I am sure once I see it I won't be able to unsee it).

Adelyn makes me want to cry.

Wilhelmina Josephine has 17 letters... That's more than most form allow which will make it annoying. That and I don't like the name =P. Nothing really wrong with it but it's just not my style.

The rest of nthe names are fine, nothing I love or hate.

" (haven't read the comments but I am sure once I see it I won't be able to unsee it). "

Yup, that's what happened to me the last time this came up in this community, too. It's a shame, because they're both nice names.

I saw the Ana/Mia issue, but only once you pointed out that there was a problem ... I want to assume it's just a bad coincidence, because they're similar enough in style.

Before I read the comments, all I could think of was anemia.

If you hadn't prefaced it with "is this a problem?" I never would have made the ED connection. I guess it's there, but they're both perfectly normal names and of a similar style.

I was thinking Anaemia? Didn't know the eating disorder connection. Learn something new! :p

When you say them together fast, it sounds like enema!

I do know of the Ana and Mia being cutesy abbreviations for Anorexia and Bulemia. These are not exactly deities though, and honestly if I don't let popularity get in my way I was certainly not going to give some stupid association that much power over naming a child of mine. I have a Mia, and truly the most aggravating thing I encountered was having it pronounced as Mya. That has not happened in a long time now though.

I think Wilhelmina Josephine is gorgeous. I was tossing around using the name Effie for this baby (I still have Genevieve, Effie, Fleur and Hermione on the list in case I don't feel she looks like a Gemma) and I thought I could use Josephine to get Effie as a nickname. I have no idea where I'd incorporate Josephine as a middle name on my list though. Luckily I'm fairly certain when this little girl is born (3 days until they induce me) she'll be my little Gemma Hermione.

Lol, I was not offended. I usually never even think of the eating disorders in context with the names anymore, alone or together, unless somebody points out that something is weird about it.

Thanks! My kids call her by name, except for Mia who, being 2 years old, pronounces it as Etta. She'll get it eventually. She called Ava "Riva" before she was able to get it right all the time, and Aidan she still has a little trouble with. It's more like Ada than Aidan but she's getting there!

Nicely worded! I had anorexia for 5ish years and then was diagnosed with a binge/purge subtype (been in recovery for almost 5 years now with some minor purging sprouts here and there) and even *I* didn't see the connection. Anna and Mia are not names I directly think of when I think of eating disorders, in fact the words I most associate with them is: Hell on earth, death, sadness and pain.

I don't see anything wrong with Anna and Mia...I doubt the children with those names will get the reference unless it's specifically pointed out to them.

I only see the problem with this because I once asked in this community what people thought of the name Mia, and some people told me. Sop yeah, here is where I learned it was a problem. I think both names are fine on their own, but together it does strike a chord.
