A lot of these names are names of my grandparents and their siblings and cousins. A farming community, the kids were born in the 1910s and 1920s, most of them 1st generation Americans of ethnic German immigrant parents.

I love all these names. I wish my husband would get on board with old timey names. He always teases me when I suggest Ida or Edna. He'll say "We're raising a baby not a little old lady". But the baby WILL be a little old lady (or man) one day!! I personally think April and Derek are silly names for grandmas and grandpas to have but it's still gonna happen.

April isn't an older name to you? I totally think it fits a grandma, just like May or June would.

I don't see April as particularly young or old. Maybe a little bit younger, but I think it ages fairly well.

From what I've heard/read (I think someone here linked to an article about it about a year ago), Derek is seen as an "old-man" name in the UK. It goes to show that a name's popularity can peak (much) earlier in one country and later in another.

Also, decades from now, people may consider names like Kaylee or Jennifer or Jayden or Mason precisely because they will sound like "old-lady/old-man" names by that point, just like with Ida and Edna.

Exactly. There was a time when names like Edna, Bertha, Phyllis, etc. would have been considered trendy, and I'm sure many at that time rolled their eyes and said they could never imagine an old lady named Edna! Names which we consider totally normal now, like Jennifer, Jessica, or Ashley, at one point would have been gotten the same reaction from many as names like Nevaeh or Mikayla get today. 70 years from now, Jennifer and Jessica will be old lady names. 100 years from now, Madison and Chloe will be old lady names.

Stansberry made me smile and giggle a little. I like, more in a fantasy character way, but it's kinda cute somehow :)

Me, too! It's weird and offbeat, but cute and awesome. It sounds almost like a hobbit name.
