[identity profile] cozyjeans.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
We’re having one heck of a time coming up with a name for our second daughter, due in May. I posted back when we found out the sex that we had chosen Lily Nicole. Lily was my choice, and Nicole was hubby’s. However, I just don’t like Nicole. And if I dump on that, then I lose Lily. Not a huge deal, because there are plenty of girl names that I like. The problem is coming up with one we can both agree on. I came up with Emma Catherine, which I absolutely adore. Hubby agreed to test drive it, but he hasn’t really given me an opinion one way or the other. Last night I was watching Reba McEntire’s sitcom, and the eldest daughter’s name is Cheyenne. Hubby mentioned, as he has before, that he loves that name. I like it too, I think it’s really pretty. My issue is finding a middle name that goes with it. Nothing seems to fit for me. So I’m going to suggest it as a middle name. My other problem is that when I think of the name Cheyenne, I think of a blonde. Putting the name Cheyenne on a brunette just doesn’t work for me. So I thought maybe if the baby’s dark haired, we could call her Emma, and if she’s fair haired, call her ? Cheyenne. Next problem is that I love the name Kira. Kira Cheyenne is adorable to me. But, for those who have seen Reba, you know that Cheyenne’s younger sister’s name is Kira. If we went that route, do you think people would think us Reba nuts? LOL. If you heard the name Kira Cheyenne, would you immediately think of that show? Or am I being paranoid? Sorry if this seems kind of disjointed. There are a lot of questions sort of jumbled up in my head, and I couldn’t really get them out in an organize fashion.

Most people don't know middle names and the tv show has been off the air for a few years and I don't think it ever made the top 100 sitcoms, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I like Emma. IMO Kira Cheyenne sounds too trendy but I wouldn't associate it with a TV show.

What's your first daughter's name?

Then I like Emma Catherine more. Emma is a solid name and while it's common, I dare say so is Haylie (at least with spelling variants) and both Elizabeth and Catherine are nice and classic names.

Kira has always seemed to me as a name that fits a child but not an adult. Not sure why that is, really.

Hahaha, and Cheyenne's daughters name on the show is Elizabeth... :)

FWIW, I have seen the show Reba, but would not associate either of those names with the show, even if they were paired together.

That said, the name is totally NMS.

I think Kira Cheyenne is just fine :) (I've never seen Reba, FYI.)

Other ideas maybe?
Kira Leigh
Kira Marian(ne)
Kira Lily (maybe you could then keep the Lily part?)
Cheyenne Hayley
Cheyenne Lorelei
Cheyenne Breanna
Cheyenne Miranda
Cheyenne Abigail

If you really don't like Nicole could your partner choose a different name you still keep Lily? Maybe some ideas:
Lily May
Lily Grace
Lily Rose
Lily Niamh/Neve/Neva
Lily Annabelle

I really like the name Kira.

I strongly dislike Cheyenne used as a name for white girls, as it the name of a group of Native Americans.

I have never seen the show Reba.

I think Emma Catherine is so classic and beautiful. However, Emma has been ranked top 5 for girls in the US since 2002 according to the Social Security Administration. The similar Emily has also been very popular, ranking #1 from 1996 to 2006. It is still ranked 6th as of 2011 (the most recent data). I don't know if popularity matters to you or not, but I thought I would point it out.

As far as Cheyenne...I really kind of hate it. Sorry. I'm not sure if Kira is kye-ruh or keer-uh. If it's kye-ruh, I don't like it with Cheyenne because the first syllable of each name would rhyme, both containing the long "I" sound. I think keer-uh sounds better. Kira is okay, but there may be some issues with pronunciation, as evidenced by my own confusion.

I could see anyone with the name Cheyenne. As someone pointed out, it is a Native American Indian tribe, but I know a lot non-Native Americans have used it as a name. Emma is the name that brings to mind blondes for me!

I know nothing about Reba, so unless you live in an area with tons of Reba fans who are all about some Reba trivia, I don't see anyone making that association.

As for the middle name, idk - how often do you hear your middle name? Nicole is mine and other than my driver's license, it shows up nowhere. Usually I'm just using a middle initial. (My middle name was my dad's choice too btw LOL). I think Lily Nicole is pretty (and I don't even really care for my middle name). I'm not a big fan of Cheyenne myself, although Kira is pretty and again, I think who cares, Cheyenne is the middle name LOL ^^ If you both like it, go for it!

I like Kira a lot and I think it sounds great with Haylie. Cheyenne is totally nms and I don't love the combo with Kira

How about:
Lily Cheyenne
Emma Cheyenne
Kira Lily

Reba is not as popular as you may think. I'm sure no one would notice! And if they do you can just play dumb:)

Funny story - my mother named me Catherine but often says she wishes she had named me Emma (or Grace or Ruth). I tease her that she gave me a name that is impossible for young children to say. There's video of my sister in the "say this word. now this word.... " phase and when they say "Say Catherine" she doesn't even attempt it and gives them a "Yeah, right!" look.

Kira Cheyenne (not my favourite spelling) sounds nice together but I'm not a fan of either tbh. I personally tend to associate Cheyenne with Reba fsr, but not really Kira. However, if I heard them together I'd definitely wonder if it was on purpose.

I've never seen Reba. If you like Kira Cheyenne, go for it. I have two friends with daughters named Cheyenne(well, Cheyenne Christine and Sheyanne Wynter), both nicknamed Chey/Shey. It's pretty popular here in Georgia.

I love Emma a lot.

Lots of babies' hair falls out or changes color, so I wouldn't base naming on the color of hair the child comes out with at birth. But I do know what you mean, I picture certain names as being on dark-haired or light-haired people. Luckily, with my coloring and the fact that my husband is Hispanic, I'm pretty sure all of our kids are going to have dark hair/eyes, so I just choose names that I picture as being on dark-haired people. LOL

I think Kira Catherine. Haylie and Kira are kind of the same style as well as Elizabeth and Catherine. Emma sounds odd with Haylie to me..

I like Kira Cheyenne!! Cheyenne as a first name isn't that great in my opinion. And Cheyenne is a Native American tribe so it doesn't make me think blonde.

Kira sounds the best with Haylie to be honest.

And I wouldn't have noticed the association if you hadn't said it. I think it's safe to say it wouldn't be most people's reaction either.

I don't watch it, so the Reba issue wouldn't even occur to me. If I discovered something like that in the names we're choosing, though, it might cause me to question the choice. I'd probably be able to let my husband make the final decision on that one.

So, I totally think of a dark-haired girl when I hear Cheyenne. It's so Native American sounding to me. Emma, on the other hand, makes me think of Austen's Emma, who was as fair-haired as they come.

What about Emma Cheyenne?

Here are more suggestions:
Halle Cheyenne
Bella Cheyenne
Lily Cheyenne (any reason this can't work?)
Mary Cheyenne
Malia Cheyenne
Molly Cheyenne

Apparently I think M names are great with Cheyenne.
