So I'm vaguely friends with a girl who has gone by Mary the whole time I've known her.  I was rather surprised to receive a wedding invitation from her, and even more surprised to find out her full name:

Marie-Elysabelle Victorianne Antoinietta Hyphenated-LastName

Even better is the fact her fiancé's name is Tom.  Not Thomas or variant, just Tom, no middle name.  When I found out his family is Czech, I thought it would be full of cool names but alas, his brothers are Ivan and Peter, and his sister is Celinda.

This also reminded me that my friend Michael is also Czech, and his sister's name is Tinka.  Apparently it's a nickname for Christina, but they named her the nickname instead.

Dialect question, do you pronounce Mary and Marie the same way?

Wow, that's a lot of names, but their beautiful. That wedding program might look a bit lopsided, though: "[Parents] present their daughter Marie-Elysabelle Victorianne Antoinietta Hyphenated-LastName in marriage to Tom LastName." I really like the fiance's siblings' names---Peter is my brother's name and it's grown on me so much lately, as has Ivan. Celinda is really pretty.

I would go by Mary (or Marie) too. That's quite a mouthful, and I don't like any of the names.

Tinka really rubs me the wrong way. It's not quite as bad if I'm hearing it in a non-English setting on a little girl, but with English ears, all I can think of is Tinkerbell. I know of two girls in their 20s (I'd guess pushing mid-20s for one and mid- to late 20s for the other) who use Tinkerbell as a nickname, and it really bothers me. I don't know why I have such an issue with it, but I do. I get really grossed out by it. (Weirdest squick ever.)

Yeah, I get the Tinkerbell for a nickname thing. When you are an adult, it's extra-weird! I mean, I get maybe calling your kid that because she might jump around like a fairy and whatnot, but over 12 and it gets strange for me. IDK, it's just...no. Lol.

Reminds me of Pippi Longstocking's full name. :)

Is your acquaintance a really bad Mary-Sue?

Victorianne Antoinetta is a hard combination because you end up saying "ann" twice. Otherwise, nice names but TOO many!

Elysabelle is a new won for me. I think I might like it, if it's pronounce Eh-leesa-belle.
