Date: 2013-01-14 07:09 pm (UTC)I'm all for using less popular/less common names or ones with an ethnic background or spelling variant that represents the family heritage. But all the "unique" spellings of common names just look "illiterate" to me. Let your child stand out by making a positive impact on her world, not by spelling her name with 3 Ys, an apostrophe, and 4 silent letters.

Date: 2013-01-14 08:21 pm (UTC)Also, OP, this was the best baby announcement list I've read in ages! The comments are amazing, and I'm especially loving "It's pronounced VR-JHONE-NEYAH" (Geez, why can't people spell this crazy hot mess of letters I've jammed together?!")

Date: 2013-01-14 10:28 pm (UTC)Neveah needs to just go away. Ugh, something about that name just makes me cringe.
Kwynten? Eeek!
...the more lists like this I see, the more I want to name my kids something like Jane or Joseph. Because at this rate, THOSE are going to be the rare names. :P

And proceeded to ask if his middle name was Mortal - "coz then it'd be awesome!"...

Date: 2013-01-15 01:45 am (UTC)-Ammillion Sad'e
-Kaleo (reminds me of the Paleo diet)
-Alexai (and no, it is not pronounced Alexa, since you chose to spell it with an i. It is now pronounced Alex-AY)
-Kwynten- what in the what? Sounds like a toddler saying 'Clinton'

Date: 2013-01-15 10:13 pm (UTC)But yes, most of these comments are pretty much delusional. I love the one about adding an "i" to the end of Alexa and then just pronouncing it like Alexa. Couldn't they have saved Alexei for a son?

Date: 2013-01-17 09:31 pm (UTC)I really think this one was supposed to be "Virginia." Just completely bastardized...
Carly and Marly is just sad because Marly doesn't sound like a real name next to Carly (even though I've MET a Marly). Carla and Marla would sound better (I still don't LIKE it, it's just BETTER).
