Hello; I have a question. What is the origin of the name Katinka? I've read Polish, but lately I've heard Dutch. Does anybody know the meaning, also? I've looked on numerous name sites, but haven't had any luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It seems to come from Denmark/the Netherlands. But according to my girlfriend who speaks some Polish, it could be used in Poland because it follows the usual word structure, if that makes sense.

Katinka is the affectionate form of Katya, itself the Slavic diminutive of Ekaterina/Yekaterina; ie Katherine. Katherine doesn't actually mean 'pure' - that's a bit of backwards derivation where some scholars tried to figure out the meaning of the name, and 'Katharos' (pure) was the nearest Greek word they could fine. Thing is, the name is originally EkatErina not EkatArina...
