Hi

From what i can gather from other sites. extreme femininity in baby girls names is considered a bad thing but are there any "floaty dresses and perfume and jewellery" type of names that can work?

Extreme femininity in a girls' name is fine. Hell, extreme femininity in a boys name is fine. If you like a name and it isn't "Adolf Hitler," go for it. Sometimes it's good to have a fresh set of eyes on a name to help you see something you might have missed before, but when it's just a matter of opinion then anything people say here is only going to be that--an opinion. There is nothing innately wrong with naming your kid Isabella Anna Elizabeth, whether I like it or not.

What do you mean by 'extreme femininity'? If you just mean something like Rosabella Sophia Juliette, well, it's not really my taste, but there's nothing wrong with it. If you mean something like 'Princess Butterfly Cupcake' you're definitely setting your kid up for trouble (and pretty much guaranteeing they won't be so happy with you later in life), but ultimately it's up to you.

What's wrong with extreme femininity? I can see how it's not someone's particular style, but a lot of frilly, feminine names are in the Top 1000 right now, like Scarlett, Amelia, Aurora, Priscilla, Ruby, Helena, Adriana, Liliana, Arabella, Isabella, etc. What sites have you been hanging around?

When I think of frilly names that work, I think of my aunt Felicity and her many sisters: Victoria, Priscilla, Miriam, Hilary, Rachel, Claudia, Rebecca, and Marguerite. Their maiden name was Smith and they have a brother named Damian. One sister has five daughters named Erica, Alexandra, Ursula, Georgiana, and Sophia (before it shot up the charts), and none of their names have hindered them---Ursula was one of my most popular classmates at school, and no one gave her trouble about her name.

Also, my name is Mary Grace, which is as Catholically feminine as you can get, and I've gotten nothing but compliments about it IRL (though the internet debates about the name Mary). If it is had a solid meaning and a standard meaning, use whatever frilly, feminine name you'd like.

I think feminine is in, but girly/cutesy is out.

Yeah, I think this is the distinction.

I think that being in this community for almost a decade I can tell you one thing for sure: People REALLY dislike kr8tif names here.

But flirty/girly/cute/ruffle names? Nah... unless it's Isabellita or another nickname of an already "feminine" name (it also depends on your definition of what feminine is). So basically no nicknames as names and no kr8tif names is MOSTLY what I've seen in this community.

This makes me think of Elizabella. I like Isabella and love Isabel and Elizabeth, but Elizabella just seems really overdone to me.

Someone I sort of know (friend of a friend) wanted to name her kid Elizabella. And her sibling Ellie. She was apparently expecting triplets.

Why would "extreme femininity in baby girls names" be a bad thing? Also, who decides what constitutes an "extreme" feminine name? What one person considers very frilly and girly might strike someone else as just an average name.

I think any name you like that is "floaty dresses and perfume and jewellery" to you will work just fine.

I personally love frilly, feminine names like Cecily (my daughter's name), Georgiana, Charlotte, Arabella, Clare, etc. As long as you like a name, who cares what others think.

Cecily is such a pretty name!
