Is Porcelina (Poor-suh-leen-uh) too weird for a girl's middle name?

I'm afraid I just love it too much and I'm not able to see how weird it could be...

Edit: I'm not really asking for if you like it or not, just if it's too out there for a girl's middle name.

i'm sorry but i really don't like it.

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Looks like porcelain which makes me think of a toilet and/or bathroom. Not in a horrible way exactly, but I don't know that I'd want that association with my name or my kid's name.

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. Porcelina --> porcelain --> toilet. Sorry.

[identity profile] tinylittlestars.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
ditto.

Thirded

[identity profile] x-lostinyou.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
...quadrupled? Haha, basically - I agree.

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of that.

[identity profile] mountain-nest.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
I was just going to reference that song ;]

[identity profile] sarahgeddes.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly what I thought.

[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's too much. It's very frilly sounding, like a name a five-year old would give to a doll. Also, I'm not a fan of anything resembling pork as part of a name, besides the obvious porcelain/toilet stuff.

[identity profile] ms-cucumber.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Porcine.

Yeah, toilets, pigs, I don't think it's a good name regardless of what position it's in.

[identity profile] ferretiger.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
porcine = pig
equine = horse
bovine = cow
ovine = sheep

etc. etc.

[identity profile] mountain-nest.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
OVINE!! so THAT's what it is for sheep! is it the same for goats??
I always always always asked that, and no one could answer me.

[identity profile] ferretiger.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I have no idea what it is for goats, I'll have to look it up sometime. I only know 'ovine' because it came up in a crossword puzzle once and stuck with me. It's very helpful for Scrabble.

[identity profile] ferretiger.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
yes. yes, it is.

[identity profile] mooie-ziel.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've always thought of middle names as the free for all of names, as in you choose names that maybe you like but wouldn't give as your child's first name. So in answer to your question: No, I don't think it's too out there for a middle name.

[identity profile] dreemerr.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
i agree with this comment

[identity profile] kindofquixotic.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm generally of the mind set that it's okay to be a bit out there with middle names, but yeah, I think it is a bit too much. The toilet association would make it a giant embarassment thing if people were to find her middle name out.

[identity profile] kindofquixotic.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's stuff like "praying at tha altar of the Porcelain God" being something people say as a euphemism for puking in the toilet that make it a problem in my mind. :(

[identity profile] secret-x-stars.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
LIKE TEA SETS. :D

[identity profile] turabiannights.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Between the aforementioned toilet and porcine references, I agree it's a bit much. Even if it weren't for those, though, it would still be quite a lot.

my nephew was born in a toilet bowl, they nicknamed him "John". They were actually on Montel for that story.

[identity profile] p-inkjeans.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
hahahahahaha

[identity profile] ladyartemisa.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
hideous. just hideous.

[identity profile] xnaivetex.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
If i ever knew a girl who had that anywhere in her name, I probably would have called her porky.

[identity profile] p-inkjeans.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
makes me think of a toilet.

[identity profile] springtide-hfa.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Makes me think "Poor Celina"

[identity profile] tiffrobyn.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Just what I was thinking!

"Poor Selena! They killed her in Mexico!"

[identity profile] secret-x-stars.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
wtf the only connotation I got was tea sets. Does no-one use porcelain cups anymore? I didn't even think of toilets. At all.

I have, quite possibly, the most idiotic middle name in the world. And it never negatively impacted my life in any way, shape or form. No-one's ever even bothered to make fun of it.

So yeah... that's my two cents haha.

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
I guess it depends on what the first name is, whether it would be an ok middle name. I too thought of toilets and pork, though, before I even read everyone else. Although porcelain does first make me think of all these nice porcelain ornaments that my grandmother used to give me, it's not long before my mind wanders to "toilet"

[identity profile] cluckydude.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think if you're going to name your kid Porcelina, it's a first name. It just doesn't sit well with me as a middle name.

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I think it's too much. It sounds REALLY pretentious and people would call her Porcy, which would be awful if she was chubby and got switched to Porky.

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
oh I'm sorry I didn't see that you specified for a middle name. I think it's fine for a middle name if you love it. I'm very big on middle names that mean something to the parents, so if you really love it, I say go for it in the middle slot!! I don't know why people are making a big deal out of it being a MIDDLE name.
maewyn: a middle-aged obi-wan holds his goatee, looking worried and pensive (retro: poor slob without a name)

[personal profile] maewyn 2006-08-26 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
holy crap NO. That's way too out there. She'd catch hell when her classmates discovered it (other people have beat me to the toilet reference and the pork jokes), and she'd spend her life refusing to tell anyone what her middle name is. Or she'd change it as soon as she could.

Tangent: I don't know how anybody could give their kid a name they know the kid will want to change later.

[identity profile] ladyjp.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not my style. How about Porcia?

[identity profile] ladyjp.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Which, of course, I meant to be Portia!

Sorry!
