Ohhhh you've caught me out with two of my favourite names.
Gunnar FOR SURE. My family are Latvian, and Gunnar is a very common name there, so there can be no other spelling. My boy name for my baby on the way is Aleksandr - again, Eastern European spelling, so I'm always at a loss for how to spell this other nickname.
Pretty much, I'd say Xander for most main English-speaking countries. But in countries where the letter X is not in the alphabet (like in Latvia), it would have to be Zander.
