I just purchased Hawksley burns for Isadora by Hawksley Workman. My boyfriend and I are huge fans of Hawskley's music and want to somehow get him to play our first dance song at our wedding. He's like a big thing for us. So I was looking at the title and thinking "Isadora hmm I think I kind of like it..."
This is probably the closest I'd ever get to naming a future kid for a song or musician but:
What do you think of Isadora?

I actually quite like it. Also if you nicknamed her "Dora", that means "gift" which is always nice. Plus, I'm a big fan of naming children after something that's meaningful to you, eg. a song/musician/whatever.

yeah obviously the number one reason I like it is because of the Hawksley connection and how Hawskley is so special to our relationship.

i think it's great! i like it better than isabella, it's stronger to me somehow, and just as feminine.

thanks, too bad my boyfriend looked at me like I was crazy when I asked what he thought of the name. Oh well, I have years yet to wear him down if I decide to.

not a fan of Dora as NN (mainly b/c of the kids show- which is wonderful, but the song is annoying)

If I used this name I wouldn't use Dora as a nick name. It didn't even occur to me until I read this. I would be afraid of people calling her Izzy though.

I don't mind the NN Izzie but yeah. If anyone did use it, it would probably just be her friends and you can always call her by her given name.

I always say Ice-a-dora with a softer s sound.

I have no clue who Hawksley is but Isadora sounds like a really neat name. Just how would you go about explaining it to your daughter? Just curious. I'm all for the name!

I'd probably explain it like: Hawskley Workman is very special to your dad and I. His music reminds us of how much your dad and I love each other and the wonderful life we have together. When we danced together to his song (we plan to-it hasn't happened yet) on our wedding day we thought about the wonderful future we had to look forward too. We picked the name Isadora for you because it reminds us of that day and because you are are the wonderful future we dreamed of.

...that is if my boyfriend agrees he likes the name.

Thats sounds so beautiful! I didn't name my daughter after a song because I didn't want them thinking oh well my mom was in love with this band and she named me after this song..I have a uncle named Skeeter because his mom was in love with Skeeter Valinetine..Get my point, but the way you explained it makes me rethink the name my husband and I have picked out for this baby!
