(no subject)

I just purchased Hawksley burns for Isadora by Hawksley Workman. My boyfriend and I are huge fans of Hawskley's music and want to somehow get him to play our first dance song at our wedding. He's like a big thing for us. So I was looking at the title and thinking "Isadora hmm I think I kind of like it..."
This is probably the closest I'd ever get to naming a future kid for a song or musician but:
What do you think of Isadora?

I like it. Hawksley is pretty cool too (the person, Im NOT suggesting it as a name haha)

Reminds me of the dancer Isadora Duncan.

I like it a lot. I've always found it far preferable to the overly-frilly Isabella.

Reminds me of Isadora Duncan. It's all right.

I like it more than Isabel, Isabella etc.

Dora Dora Dora the Explorer.. I don't know the rest.

I think that annoying big-headed brat ruined all 'dora' names for a little while.

It's also a makeup brand. A good makeup brand, IMO.. but yeah.

what?! Dora is so awesome, how do you not like her? she is so adorable.

I actually quite like it. Also if you nicknamed her "Dora", that means "gift" which is always nice. Plus, I'm a big fan of naming children after something that's meaningful to you, eg. a song/musician/whatever.

i think it's great! i like it better than isabella, it's stronger to me somehow, and just as feminine.

Isadora is beautiful. Good name :)

I love it.

not a fan of Dora as NN (mainly b/c of the kids show- which is wonderful, but the song is annoying)

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-08-23 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind the NN Izzie but yeah. If anyone did use it, it would probably just be her friends and you can always call her by her given name.

I've never heard of this name. How is it pronounced? Izza-dora... Ice-a-dora...something else?

[identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com 2006-08-23 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I always say Ice-a-dora with a softer s sound.

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2006-08-23 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like a combo of Isabelle and Theodora. Isadora.

[identity profile] cluckydude.livejournal.com 2006-08-23 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's beautiful. ::smile::

[identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com 2006-08-23 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I adore it! (no pun intended). I think it's much more lovely and unique than Isabella. Dora or Dory can also be a cute nn if it fits. :)

I LOVE it. I think it's super pretty and so much more unique right now than Isabel.

I have no clue who Hawksley is but Isadora sounds like a really neat name. Just how would you go about explaining it to your daughter? Just curious. I'm all for the name!

[identity profile] sanity741.livejournal.com 2006-08-23 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thats sounds so beautiful! I didn't name my daughter after a song because I didn't want them thinking oh well my mom was in love with this band and she named me after this song..I have a uncle named Skeeter because his mom was in love with Skeeter Valinetine..Get my point, but the way you explained it makes me rethink the name my husband and I have picked out for this baby!

I think it's gorgeous, and way underused.

[identity profile] arbus.livejournal.com 2006-08-24 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
i love it!
