[identity profile] dustthouart.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Little girl, about 3, wearing pink tutu, named Spring. Librarian asked her mom to repeat it so that's definitely the name. They were Asian so it's quite possible that this is a literal translation of her name in another language, since 春 is not n uncommon component in Chinese names, I assume it might be the same for other Asian languages.... Or maybe they are just hippies. LOL. I wouldn't choose this name but it could grow on me. It's cheerful.

Got talking with a grandma at the playground watching her 7-ish yo granddaughter, Faryn. I thought I did a good job keeping my face pleasant when she said the name, but she sighed, rolled her eyes, and said "Yeah, I know. I didn't pick it. I named her mother Anne!" LOL. She spelled it for me, hence how I know it's with a y.

Lastly today, a mom was calling her daughter Cassie. No big deal, right? Well, the daughter did something wrong, and like many parents, she pulled out the full form of the name to scold her. But it wasn't Cassandra. It was Cassius. I did NOT do a good job keeping my face straight there but luckily the mom was focused on her child.

Most of the names I hear are actually pretty nice, but that just makes these seem worse by comparison!
