[identity profile] ladydreamfire.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I had previously made a post about how my best friend selected the name Autumn for her upcoming daughter, and at the time she was unsure of middle names. Apparently they've selected Rain, but it will be misspelled in some fashion. BECAUSE RAIN IS TOO TRENDY.

I love my friend. But this killed me. I hate it through and through. Autumn Raine/Rayne?? Why don't we just give her a Guns N Roses Tattoo and a Free Bird shirt? Those are the only two things that come to mind. November Rain and Hippies.

Seriously...Skylar Noel and Autumn Raine. I feel like such a snob for being so condescending over a friend's baby name, but I absolutely hate it. Of course, aside from pointing out it was very naturey I kept my mouth shut and supported her since she obviously loves it. But here I can vent.

Also, why is Rain everywhere? Rain and Rose are like the new Lynn and Marie of the middle name position. Sometimes they work very nicely in that spot too, but overall it feels soooooooooo overdone.

Have to say I hardly ever see it spelled Rain. Rain would be the least trendy way to spell it!

I came across a sib set: Spring Rain and Autumn Rain. I think I would prefer November Rain LOL!!

If I were to go with a season it would be Winter. Not that Autumn is an unusual name, but I've always thought if you went unusual or noun-y with the first name, the middle name should be classic. Like Autumn Elizabeth or something.

oh, and don't feel bad. One of my friends nephew's name is Kashton and it made me vomit a little in my mouth LOL.

Blech. I can't see that name, especially the Raine spelling, without thinking of an NPC from a Final Fantasy game. Protip: If your kid's name makes me think of a JRPG character, IT'S NOT A GOOD NAME. -.-

Ugh, those poor kids.

My daughter's name is Aerith..........

But she's a complete and utter weirdo....so having an unusual name worked out perfectly for her. She's almost 4...and I think I said, "Monkey, do you know how weird you are?" about 40 times before she left for her dad's house this afternoon.

...On the other hand, if you do it knowingly like that, it's kinda awesome. I can't even get my boyfriend to agree to name a cat Cait Sith. :P It's just those "Oh, aren't I unique?" names that do that, that make me roll my eyes. :P

I just kinda knew she'd be an interesting little kid. She and her brother are complete opposites. This morning she asked me to give her 8 pony tails on her head because she wanted to look like an octopus.

::snort-laugh:: Hilarious.

Yeah, Autumn is pushing it for me, and adding Rain is just over the top. Poor kid. I hope she likes her tattoo.

Love Autumn (my sister-in-law's name is Autumn Shaye)... but I gotta agree that Autumn Rain is really pushing it.

Uh, I like Autumn a lot, actually, but that might be because I've met an adorable little girl named Autumn. I agree that Autumn Rain/Rayne/Raine is a bit much, but it really could be a lot worse.

BECAUSE RAIN IS TOO TRENDY.

It is? I wouldn't say Rain is "everywhere." In fact, I haven't met anyone named Rain (as an fn or mn) at all. I think you're confusing Rain with Grace.

Honestly, this sounds like a big overreaction to me.

Autumn was my pick for a girl's name for a long time. Now that i think anout it, It would have suited my 6m daughter. But I wouldn't have ever used a noun as a middle name with Autumn. Incidentally, her name is Ella Rose. Obviously I could never have used Rose as a MN with Autumn, that's on the same level as Autumn Rain. Rose is a really popular MN, but she was named after my mom, Rose Marie (who has no middle name)

Thank you! Your replies are always so sweet and thoughtful.

I love the name Audrey, Audrey Rose is beautiful. Could never use it though, Audrey is my dog's name. That's her on the left in my icon!

I am happy happy happy about naming my daughter Ella Rose. It feels so nice to honor my mom, and it means the world to her :o)

haha, I don't hate it nearly as much as you do. It's not my style, but doesn't make me want to vomit.

I do understand hating a friend's baby's name though and not being able to say anything about it!

Yeah November Rain and Purple Rain came to mind XD

I used to like Rain as a misguided teen, but now I'm like FUCKING HATE THE RAIN. It rains all the time here. Although I'm not into names like Summer and Autumn for myself, they're pretty and I feel like sticking Rain on there just ruins it.

I used to love the name Rain/Raine for either sex. I'm glad I never used it, though. It's too earthy for me.

Autumn is a nice name, though.
