[identity profile] earn-my-wings.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

My friends Josh and Jacki just had their baby last night: Jemma Rain.

I think it's pretty, although I can't decide if I like Gemma better. Also, her initials are J.R.R. which is pretty cool, haha. Just hoping that they aren't starting a J trend like the Duggars...

Also what do you guys think of Lark for a girl's name? I'm not usually one for quirky or obvious nature names, but I think I kind of like it, if not for a first name than a middle. I saw it on the back of a truck and thought it was a unique bird name as an alternative to Robin or Wren (although I love Wren).

Has anyone ever met someone with that name?

I prefer Gemma, but Jemma Rain does sound pretty.

I like Lark.

I prefer the Gemma spelling, but that's a beautiful name.

Lark's pretty, though not something I'd use personally. I've never met a Lark. It always makes me think of Lark Voorhies, the girl who played Lisa on "Saved by the Bell."

Saved by the Bell is immediately what I thought of, lol.

I have a friend called Larkin, and she has a daughter called Larka.

I like Lark, but could never use it as my daughter's name is Wren and we're definitely not going for a theme! Bird names do seem to be gaining prominence, though. I hope that Wren stays quite rare (6 born in the UK in 2011).

I much, much prefer Gemma. I don't know what it is about Jemma, but I really dislike it. To me, Gemma vs. Jemma is the like the difference between Catherine and Kayleigh. Ugh.

I do like Lark though. Short, spunky, nature-y. I think I prefer it as a middle name just based on the flow of short, punchy names.

I know it's the same name either way but I really really hate the Jemma spelling. Although I will give your friend credit, it does flow nicely and it's still spelled correctly.

I am getting ready to make a post of my own since Rain popped up with a friend and I'm dying to rant about it.

My name is Gemma so I'm biased, but I definitely prefer it spelled with a G. ;) Jemma Rain is quite nice though. I don't mind Lark for a girl, but I have never come across a girl named Lark. I agree that it's a nice alternative to the other girls "bird" names. :)

Gemma was on our short list for our first daughter (we went with Brenna). I've considered naming a daughter Jeremy after my brother and calling her Jem or Jemma. I do prefer the Gemma spelling, though.

I think Lark is cute. Not *quite* my style, but cute. I think bird names are cute.... I'd name a baby after my favorite bird, but Red-Winged Blackbird would sound pretty bad. :) I've never met anyone with it personally, but I've seen it enough.

My cousin's name is Larkin (female) and I do love the name. It's interesting, no one really calls her Lark, although you would think that would come naturally to some. Her sister's name is Lily, and I love the sib-set as well.
