Roodly has me entirely stumped. And I look Dhyana and wonder why someone butchered a really beautiful name. And Connor on a girl? I have never heard that one before.

Sad. My college alumni newsletter always has really awesome baby announcements! Was this for a university or a high school?

I guess Sawyer Patrick is nice. I personally don't like either name, but I get why people like Sawyer, and it is a properly spelled name with a nice sound and cadence. Hunter and Fisher make me twitch a little. And I think of fisher cats. *shudder.*

Hailey June is kind of nice, but as a Hali, I'm partial to my own spelling over that one.

I really don't like:
Leslie. -Boy or girl, I hate this name. It just sounds gross to me.

Halliane. Again as a Hali, I HATE Hallie.

Keelin. Seriously, what is that? Sounds like someone saying "killin'" in an accent.

Siobhan. I like the spelling and the idea of it, but think the pronunciation is ugly and very "high school popular girl" to me.

Dhyana. The spelling is just so bad. I don't really like the name even when it's spelled right.

Haha, all I saw at the bottom was Andrew Jackson and Patrick Sawyer ;-p

Many of those are very normal names. I deleted any of the boys names gone girl and all the unique spellings, but the rest below are very normal.

I think it depends on where you live somewhat, and you have to take into consideration the time period. For example, Leslie, while it started out as a male name, is largely used for females these days. Most people would think it was unusual to encounter a high school boy named Leslie, whereas it would be less strange to see it on a 70 year old man.

Demetrius, while heard of, isn't what I would call common in the US. It is currently ranked 581.

Carla may have been more common at one point, but is currently 747. I believe Carla is also more common in some other countries, but I may be mistaken.

I went to middle school with a girl named China so again, not unheard of, but not one you hear everyday. Danika is more commonly spelled Danica in the US. Sami may be a pretty normal nickname for Samantha, but this appeared to be a given name. Antonia and Angeline are not common in the US. Elissa is usually spelled Alyssa, unless they were going for Elisa. Siobhan isn't even on the SSA's list, meaning it has never been in the top 1,000 names.

The part under the cut (Alumni Birth Announcements) was a separate section. I wasn't trying to make any statement on whether or not they were popular.

Erm...I don't mean for this to sound like an "I'm right; you're wrong" comment. I'm just trying to explain my reasons for including the names on the list. And Shelby I may have made a mistake on. I didn't realize it was ranked 33 in 1991.

What are some of the names you would consider unusual? I was basing the list on things like spelling, the sex of the youth it was used on, and recent popularity of the name in the US (some names may have been in fashion a generation or two ago but aren't commonly heard on the current youth).

I'm genuinely curious as another person said they thought many of the names were quite common. I went into (perhaps too much) detail in my response as to why each name was on the list.

And just in case there is any confusion, I was not making any commentary on the names under the cut. I was simply listing all of the alumni births there.
