[identity profile] politicking.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

While going through my old, old Livejournal, I had an entry with names that I liked. So, here are my favorite baby names back when I was 15/16yrs old!

Girls:
Ainsleah/Ainsley
Cosette
Brynn
Brielle

Boys:
Sutton
Raine
Rivers

For boy or girl:
Drew
Brice

Does anyone else remember (or even still have?) lists of names from when they were younger? Are they much different than today, or what you actually named your kids?

When I was a kid I wanted to be called Roxanne or Roxy. I also wanted to be a dog. I still think they're nice names for dogs, lol.

Roxy is my dog's name, haha.

In high school I liked the name combo Kylieanna Elizabeth Julia Grace. Thank God I wasn't a teen mom. I eventually grew some taste in terms of first names (the middle names aren't bad). I have loved the name Adam since high school though too. It's still in my top 5.

A lot are different, but many are the same. One of them I used, I married a man with one of the names, and lots I can't use because of immediate family members using them/bad connotations from others. I would guess that most of these names are from lists I made at 14 or 15, and names added and taken off as I got older.

However, Harrison & Sophia are names I've loved since I was little. Harrison for Harrison Ford (because my mom told me Indiana Jones wasn't an appropriate child's name, so I said I would name my future son for the actor, HA!) and Sophia from Golden Girls, haha.

Boys:
Anthony (married one!)
Dominic
Jacob (nephew)
Gabriel (nephew)
Christian
Dean (nephew)
Harrison (husband hates it)
Aidan/Aiden (I still think it is cute, but I "outgrew" it)
Thomas (can't use because it clashes horribly with our last name)
James (same as above)
Ari
Canaan
Hudson
Baley (met a little boy named Baley, spelled this way, and I always had a soft spot for it. I have always preferred Bailey for a boy, from the comic Beetle Bailey haha)

Girls:
Sophia (used it!)
Grace (used it!)
Scarlet (Husband hates)
Charlotte (husband hates)
Meredith
Isabella (at least 10 people I know have Isabellas)
Claire
Ariel or Arielle
Alyssa (my sister was named this)
Agnes (french pronunciation, but unfortunately no one would pronounce it that way, so its in the middle name catagory)

I'm sure there were more but these are the ones I remember.

My husband is not a fan of most -son names, except Jackson (which is one I do not like). So sadly, it is gone. I've decided I will name a dog Harrison (or maybe Indiana).

I've seen some dreadful spellings of Bailey/Baley also...

Bahlea is my favorite, obviously....

My girl's name was always Dakota. My mom said it was an airplane.
Two year's ago my favorite boy's name was Noah (and now I'm dead set on Archer)

I have a list from when I was about seven. I don't remember all the names on it, but I remember that the #1 girls name was Diana (after Princess Diana) and the #1 boys name was Greyson (a popular boy in my class).

I wouldn't use either today.

My two favorite names when I was a teenager (14-15) were Amanda and Angelica. I still have Amanda as my #1 girls name, and while I do like Angelica, it's a bit further down on the list. Other names have replaced it, like Andrea at first, which again got replaced with Aurora. I wanted Juliana as a middle name for Amanda, but I've changed that to Madelen/Madeleine.

My top boys name was David Alexander, which I still like, although Daniel has sort of replaced David as my top name.

Overall, I like mostly the same names now as I did then, with the additions of some that I've added on in recent years :)

I remember when I was very young, about 9 or so, I used to love the name Flora for a girl. LOL. Definitely not now.

And I admit, I still love the name Raine, always have. I don't know, I just adore it. And Sutton is a really cute name too!

When I was 14, it was Charity Paige (hideous!). Then I went through an Irish phase - Roisinn and Niamh, neither of which I like anymore. I never had hypothetical names for boys, though.

It's funny to see how your tastes change. I guess you have to hope that you always like the names you actually use for your children. Once they belong to people, though, the names become particular to them so they will always fit.

I went through an Irish phase, too! I remember seeing the name Tierney in a baby name book and deciding to use it on a female character in a story I wrote. I loved that name so much as a pre-teen!...and now I look back and wonder what the heck I was thinking. Then again, it does sound like it would fit today's naming trends.

My favourites as a kid were Samantha, Davina, Michaela and Nicola.

They seem sort of dated now!

For what it's worth, I love the name Davina!

Aqua.
When I was about 10 or 11 I announced that when I grew up and had a baby, I would name her Aqua.

I know I had some pretty out there names but that's the one that definitely sticks out. My sister once made a joke saying she wanted to have three girls and name them Dasani, Aquafina and Evian. It was a half-jab at me and a half-jab at people who actually do give their babies names like that.

Sadly, I've seen a Dasani before, and she had a brother named DiGiornio. I wish I was kidding.

I think my name taste in 2nd grade was pretty good, but that's thanks to the names in my favorite TV show and of my two best friends were nice. I wanted to have two girls and name them Samantha Sarah and Tabitha Ashley.

However, by early high school, things had gone a bit crazy. My name list was very ecclectic. Some of the names are ones I still think are good (or not bad, at least), but others were kind of out there. Some of these names weren't ones I would actually use, but I thought they were interesting and I liked them. So here's what I can remember of the list:

Phoenix (m/f)
London (m)
Virgil
Timothy
Lachlan
Niamh
Phobos
Deimos
Morgan (m)
Morrigan (f)
Ceridwen
Fionbharr
Honor (m)
Merit (m/f)
Martin
Zane
Zephyr (m)
Zinnia
Malachi
Ezekiel
Briar (m)

Some sibsets that I liked:
Jade, Lake (m), and Rain
Hermione Jane and Byron Edward

I like Sutton now. I think it's cute.

The names I liked when I was a teenager:

Katie
Shannon
Sharon
Chantelle (yes, really)
Amber

Chandler
Leo (still like this one a LOT)

I used to keep lists of names in my head for additions to my porcelain doll collection. I remember thinking McKinley would sound cute on a girl. I don't know why I thought that, as now I hate the idea, but clearly I was ahead of my time...

I liked Shasta as a name, too. I saw a book about a kitten named Shasta and it stuck with me.

I know I have an old list somewhere around here, but several names I no longer like: Aiden (back when it was ranked in the 300's I loved it), Graham (dated a guy whose surname was Graham so that kind of ruined the name), Anastasia, Jacqueline, Astoria... I know there are tons of others. As far as the girls' names, I tend to like shorter girls' names now.

I've liked the name Alexandra since I was 7 years old. Still one of my favorites.

I also liked Hannah when I was about 11, but I've gotten over it.
