[identity profile] composure.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I am a member of an online TTC forum, and someone else there wants to name her potential baby girl Kaelayigha Elizabeth or Yalaina Leighann. Are either of those "real" names?

I hope she has a boy because those choices are Ezra Lee and Gregory Douglas Jr.

Ugh, I absolutely hate it when parents give boys traditional names yet saddle their girls with frothy abominations. It's the "boys are carriers of our legacy, girls are just accessories and living dolls" school turned into permanent labels for all to see.

Oh wow. You just put into words the feeling I was trying to nail down with the discrepancy here. Exactly.

Also, "frothy abominations" is absolutely fabulous.

Frothy abominations is a perfect description of these names. :D

Joining the chorus of love for the phrase "frothy abominations". SO appropriate.

Her taste is clearly unpredictable. The girls' names are atrocious, but I adore both Ezra and Gregory. I honestly don't know which of those I prefer! And on the flip side, I don't know which of the girls' names is worse, lol.

Yalaina is beautiful. I'd say it comes from Yalena = greek form of Helen.

Not a fan of any of the others, boy or girl.

Yelena is a Russian form of Helen and Kaylee is a real name, but those spellings take them into "made up" territory.

Why would anyone consider terrible misspellings of girls' names, but traditional spellings for boys? That's remarkably sexist and it seriously devalues female names.

Yalaina is almost workable, but the first one... it looks like she just grabbed a bunch of random Scrabble tiles. All it's missing is the Q. -.-

As other commenters have said, Yalaina looks like a different spelling of Yelena--that's one I can tolerate.

But Kaelayigha? How would you--? Seriously, though. (And I thought my name was vowel-heavy).
