new baby

a friend's baby announcement... Emily Bliss.

WDYT? I like Emily but I just don't think Bliss is a name....

I wouldn't use it personally, but it's quite sweet as a middle name. And at least they gave her a nice normal first name and kept the kooky for the middle.

I figure it's just as valid as Joy or Hope or any of the other emotion based names. Definitely prefer it as a middle name though.

I agree with what others have said: it's in the middle name slot and there are other emotion-based names so I don't think it's too bad. In fact, I think Emily Bliss sounds really sweet. Neither are names I would use myself, but I see nothing wrong with the combination.

Confession: When I was in high school, I thought about using Blessing as a middle name for a hypothetical future daughter. Way too saccharin for me now, but there you are.

Yeah, this combination is cute, but I'm just not feeling Bliss in general. It reminds me of a name I saw on Nameberry: Agnes Josephine Bliss. I told my sister about it since she's a Josephine, and she said, "Agnes Josephine is beautiful, but Agnes Josephine Bliss? Really?"

I can roll with one-syllable word names like Grace, Rose, Faith, Joy, or Hope, but once we get to Bliss, Lark, Plum, and tree names, it looks like we've landed in "trying too hard" territory. I agree with you: Not every word is a name.

while I don't like Bliss or really any of the other virtue names, like them it is a totally valid name, and I have heard it used before.

aww I think it's cute- and really it's not like everyone is immediately made aware of middle names...you know hoe many people know my daughter's middle name? probably just our families and a few close friends (the people who originally got the birth announcement)

I wouldn't use it but I like it

I've heard worse than Bliss. A friend of a friend had a daughter whose first name was Blessing. That's kind of embarrassing once you hit school age!
