My full name was Rochelle Renee Oslund until I got married last year. My maiden name is important because it contributed to people saying my name wrong, as seen below. SO glad I have a different last name now!
Honestly, I don't really like my name. Nearly everyone either spells it wrong or says it wrong. Most of the time when I introduce myself, people think I say Michelle. If someone's reading it off of paperwork (doctor's office, school, etc), they usually call me Rachel orrr they used to call me Roslund (Roslynd/Roslyn?) because they would take my first initial and combine it with my (old) last name. Seriously, it never failed. Heh.
A little background: I am named after my maternal grandmother, who has NEVER gone by her first name. And for the record, my mother told me that if she had another daughter with my father, she would have named her Janelle (my paternal grandma was Mary Jane, went by Jane, and she wanted to honor both grandmothers). Thankfully my parents got divorced. She had a daughter with my stepdad, so my half-sister was definitely NOT named Janelle. ;)
Oh, and I've thought about changing my name to Cattie because nearly every friend called me that for 10ish years of my life, but even THAT had its issues... People pronouncing it like Katie or Cathy. I guess I'm just doomed to be correcting everyone regardless, so I'll keep Rochelle with the nicknames Ro and Chelle.
