My Twin Fantasy
Aug. 22nd, 2012 11:06 pmI’ve always had a secret fantasy about having boy/girl twins. It’s unlikely to happen, no family history and no fertility treatments here. But just because I feel like it, I came up with boy/girl twin names that I love. I hate the matchy matchy twin names, it just makes it seem like we’re trying to take away their individuality. They already have to share a birthday, why make it worse? Anyway, the names I love are Nicholas Anthony and Samantha Catherine. Our last name is one syllable and starts with S. WDYT? Who knows, maybe this round of TTC will work doubly well, and I’ll get my wish.

Date: 2012-08-23 05:19 am (UTC)I've also kind of wanted twins just so I could be done in one shot and my kids could have a best friend their age, but then I think back to my daughter's baby days and I shudder at the thought of doing it with 2 of her. :P Good and bad to everything I guess.

Date: 2012-08-23 05:33 am (UTC)I sympathize on the twin fantasy. I have perfect names picked out for boy/girl and TWO sets of names for girl/girl twins, so if I ever do have twins it'll probably be two boys.
It also sucks because I'm reluctant to use my twin names on any singletons, and I really like them all as individual names. But if I used a name, and then the next pregnancy I had twins of the set I would have used the name for, I'd be so upset, lol.
I like matching in twins names, but I prefer it to be very subtle, usually match one's first to the other's middle. Like one girl/girl set is Stella Perpetua and Felicity Maris. Stella and Felicity, the first names, aren't matchy matchy in the least. But Stella Maris has a connection (it's a Marian title) and Perpetua and Felicity have a connection (the saints were martyred together).
People tend to either name their twins Jada and Jaden or else insist there must be no matching at all, but I think there can be a middle ground.

Date: 2012-08-23 10:20 am (UTC)Madeleine is for my MiL's mother. Etienne is the French version of Stephen, which was my FiL's name (he passed away when I was 29 weeks pregnant with the twins). We call them Finn and Vieve.
With Nicholas and Samantha, if you shortened the names, people wouldn't know if it was Nick and Sam - boy/boy, girl/girl, or boy/girl!

Date: 2012-08-23 04:35 pm (UTC)I hate matchy matchy twin names. I wouldn't name twins any differently than if I had 2 single children.

Date: 2012-08-24 12:37 am (UTC)I've thought about this, too, but I don't have a set (either for boy/girl, boy/boy, or girl/girl) specifically in mind. I just have a top 5 list of names for each gender, and would use the top one of each that was available. Unfortunately, that means if I have boy/girl twins the first time I get pregnant it'll look like I'm going for the matchy-matchy thing with Phineas James and Phoenix Cynthia. But if I had a single boy or girl first, that would all change and I'd be "clear" of the matchy-matchy thing. Oh, well, it's something I can live with if it happens.
Good luck to you!
