What do you think of the name Ivy? Do you think it's going to become overused/trendy because of Blue Ivy Carter? If we used it (we're not pregnant, nor ttc) it would be in a sibset with Elsa, Ashton, Lucy and Bradley.

Also, I'm looking for a fairly old fashioned, under used boy name.. My husband and I find it incredibly difficult to find something that's neither boring nor trendy. The name Ashton has a lot of sentimental reasons behind it and that's why we chose it, despite it not really being our style. So we're looking for names that would fit more with the other kids names than his, as much as we love him and his name.

I love the name Ivy, I don't think it will become popular because of Blue Ivy. I like Ashton and Bradley.

I like Ivy, but not the Poison Ivy association. Maybe Iris? Hazel?

Boys - Winston? Lindsay? Howard? I'm thinking back through my family tree, but there's an awful lot of Henry, William, Frederick, Robert etc.

I don't have much to do with my dad's side of the family, except my aunt on FB. We moved to a new area and she said "I think your great-grandad is buried there". I tracked him down, and he is. He's Henry William, and his wife was Mabel. But he had a brother (I think) buried there too, and he's William Henry!

I adore Ivy... it was on my list. But alas, my last baby was a boy and we're done. I think I'll use it for a pet or something. I don't think that it will become too popular because of Blue Ivy, particularly because it was used as a middle name. And I think it goes nicely with the other names.

My son's name is Calvin... that's pretty old-fashioned. Otherwise, maybe Gregory? Charles? George?

Can I ask what your reactions to Calvin were like? The DH and I really like it.

oh, I didn't even think of that! it's my son's name so I no longer connect it with the cartoon character. others certainly would, though.

I did know siblings sally and charlie, though.

I loooooove Ivy. I think it's going to continue to go up in popularity but I don't expect a huge spike or anything like that.

Since you're in the UK I don't know what to advise, because most of the boys names I love are much more used over there than this side of the Atlantic. FTR our boys list right now is Rhys, Simon, Benedict, August, Lionel, Leo, Tobias, and Thaddeus.

I can see Ivy getting popular tbh. It's a nice substitute for Ava. And with Blue Ivy, I can definitely see it becoming more popular!

However, I do love Ivy. I think it's very pretty.

I can see Ivy rising in popularity but not anywhere near that level. I would use it ;)

The name Logan comes to mind. Not sure if it's old fashioned but it seems like it would be and I like that it's not terribly trendy.

Logan was number 18 on the top 100 baby boy names of 2011 in the UK, it's very trendy here and becoming more popular as a girls/unisex name too. :)

Really, I had no idea. I haven't looked at statistics and was just basing this off my own knowledge; I've only ever met one Logan in my life and don't hear the name very much. Sorry!

I think it's one of those names that varies by country! Not so popular in the US but very common in Austalia and the UK :)

I'm not personally a fan of the name Ivy, but it would fit with the other names in the sibset.

For boy names:

Peter
Louis
Gregory
Vincent
Julius
Edwin
Victor
Hugh
Clark

What about Ira, for a boy's name? It seems to fit in with the other names, and it's similar to Ivy but not trendy at all.

I looooove the name Ivy. I think it's beautiful and it was my number 1 girls name. I don't think it will become too popular/trendy at all, I think people tend to go for Ava/Eva instead.

I think Ivy is a great name. My other half hates it, though. Possibly because he grew up surrounded by anything and everything Batman.

I honestly really dislike it. It's always been one of my least favourite names.

I love Ivy! That's my middle daughter's name. I'm kind of surprised (and somewhat disappointed, ngl) that it's becoming so popular lately.

For us, not only did we just love the idea of it for a name, it was also a small nod to my grandma and her family, as her maiden name was Ivey.
