I've created an OC who goes by Chess (the nn is derived from the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland). However, its got me thinking about names that could have Chess as a nn? Francesca is the first thing that comes to mind...but then my mind goes blank lol. Just a curiosity question... there has to be more than one name LOL.!

**Edit** yes its a girl, sorry...forgot you folks can't read my mind via the interwebz LOL

Chester came to mind first, tbh.

But I think it could also work for Charles/Charlotte, just as a slightly more imaginative one.

I'm assuming you're talking about a girl, but definitely Chester! Maybe it could be a last name?

It would definitely be on the more inventive side of things, but I've known girls called Chelsea (and all the spelling variations thereof) who got called "Chels" for short.

"Chels" to "Chess" = not that far of a jump, especially when nicknames are involved.

This! I gave my friend Chelsie the nn Chester so Chess works too.

That's what I thought of too.

You could go off of her surname. Lots of people use surname-based nicknames. So you could have her surnamed Chester, Chesley, etc.

Baby names tell me 'Chess' itself is a name for a girl (American meaning 'free?') Or Chessa or Chesna are Slavic names.

Chesna and Chessa were the first thing to come to mind for me, too. I loooove both names.

I had a young character in a story called Chelsea who went by "Chessie" because of how her big brother pronounced her name when she was born. Think of how children who have difficulty making the "l" sound would say Chelsea, "Che-see".

I know in the Downside series, by Stacia Kane, Chess is short for Cesaria.
