I noticed the other day that there are some people who go by their first and middle name or they have a nice first and last name combination, and I find myself liking it. But once I isolate each name, I don't like the individual names, at all. Here's just a few famous names that I thought of right away which I like together, but not apart:

Doris Day (Doris alone is bleh, add the "Day" and it's so charming)
Norma Jean (Dislike both names separately)
Mary-Kate (not keen on either by themselves)
Tina Fey (I don't like Tina at all, but calling her Tina Fey sounds good to me, haha)

Does anyone else relate? What name combinations sound good to you together, but not individually? And how much of your opinion do you attribute to having a good association or familiarity with that person?

I'm watching le Tour de France at the moment and I keep thinking that it's weird to refer to Cadel Evans by just his first name, because Cadel is such a stupid name. Saying his full name is okay, though.

I think it feels odd to refer to a lot of celebrities by just their first name, as we know of them on a first name-surname basis. With our friends and family, we rarely use surnames, but we don't actually have any reason to talk about celebrities on a first name basis, because, you know, they're not our friends!

Antonio Banderas. (Not a big fan of Antonio, but it flows so well together.)
Atari Bigby (football player. If he was named after the game system it's completely ridiculous. Atari Smith or something just doesn't work for me.)
Harper Seven ( David and Victoria Beckham's kid. I hate numbers as names)
Blue Ivy (It sounds more like a description when you put them together.)
Diablo Cody (sounds so awesomw together)
Pia Zadora

Mary-Kate is a beautiful name combination, but Mary is blegh and Kate is just boring.
