I am not planning on having anymore kids, but I have come across a name I really like: Nikolay (or other spellings considered). Problem is, my DS name is Dominic.
There are definitely worse sibsets out there--I mean, these are actually NAMES--but I still probably wouldn't feel comfortable using them together.
That's the same issue I was having with some names for hypothetical future children. I've said for a couple of years now that I would name my first son Callum. Well, I briefly fell in love with the name Malcolm, which seemed alwfully close, just switched around a bit, although today, it isn't looking nearly as bad for some strange reason. Anyway, it's all moot because 1. I would have to have a boy named Callum first 2. Malcolm is no longer a top contender for hypothetical future children. I still really like it, just not as much as others.

This part of your name made me think of a sibset I heard at work: Kasen and Caven (rhymes with Gavin). After I heard it, I though, "Casey and Gavin (or Kevin) wouldn't work because...why?"
No, he doesn't have a nickname, though sometimes we call him by his middle name. Some people have tried out "dommers" which I don't like. My spanish speaking relatives have called him "domi" which I cringe to since it kinda sounds like dummy.
Sometimes when he is chowing down I'll call him "Nom-inic" but that's about the long and short of it.
The way I see it, even if your kids are siblings, they are also individuals. They'll probably be only semi-constantly together for the first 5 or so years of their life, and usually together for maybe another 5-10 years after that, but once they hit adolescence they'll have their own groups of friends and their own personalities and interests. Dominic will likely leave the house before the second son, and most of their adulthood they'll probably live apart in separate (though interconnected) lives.
So I wouldn't worry whether they make a match "sibset." Besides, Nikolay and Dominic sound fine together to me.
