Is it really? When I first saw it I thought that maybe it was a variation, but I didn't come up with anything when I Googled it, or on any of the usual name databases I use, so I assumed it was merely a "kreative" spelling. Of course it's perfectly fine if it's an established name. Although I still don't like it, I don't like the original Ulysses either.
I've only encountered Ulysses as a middle name (interestingly, the person's first name was Abraham). I don't mind it, but I'd be more likely to use it on a pet than a human.
This spelling isn't that bad, really. I read the comments that it's the Spanish spelling, so I don't see anything wrong with it. If they'd spelled it phonetically with a bunch of Y's, then I'd hate it.
