Callum
Results and thoughts:
Maria - Nice, but I probably wouldn't use it.
Antonia - This name has intrigued me for a while. I say it "An-ton-EE-ah".
Camilla - I really like the flow of this name.
Grace - My middle name (and my favorite part of my name)! Of course, I love it!
Charlotte - One of my favorites.
Elizabeth - Classic.
Claire - I love this one a lot, too!
Audrey - Alright, I guess.
Julian - I've really liked this name for a while now.
Henry - One of my favorites for a boy.
Julio - I prefer Julian.
Tomas - The Spanish pronunciation is cool, but I prefer Thomas as a spelling.
Lorenzo - This name is fun.
Graham - This one has been growing on me recently.
Owen - I really like this one a lot.
What are your results? Did anything surprise you?

Date: 2012-06-20 04:45 am (UTC)I pronounce Antonia An-TONE-ni-ah.
My input: Simon, Benedict, August, Honora, Beatrix, Philippa.
Boys:
Basil - This is one of those names that I like on an adult but can't see using on a kid.
Oliver - Never been a big fan. It's ok but not for me.
Henry - Ditto to Oliver. I can understand why they suggested it though.
James - Now James I like, but my daughter has Jamie as a middle name, so maybe not?
Benjamin - Vastly prefer the sound, personal significance and meaning of Benedict.
Nigel - I like it better than Oliver or Henry but still not loving it.
Orrin - OMGWTFBBQORRIN? Where did this come from? No. Just no.
Girls:
Amalie - Is this an anglicization of Amélie? I'd rather use the French spelling.
Grace - With our surname it would come out like "Greasy". Unfortunate because I do like it.
Violet - LOVE this one.
Gemma - Ditto, love it.
Felicity - Three in a row!
Elizabeth - I like it but as a middle, because it's the name of my mother and sister-in-law, and I don't like to use living person's names as firsts.
Flavia - This one appeals to me, but I don't think I'd ever use it. It means "blond", for one thing, and it's highly unlikely any of our kids will be blond.
Isadora - I kind of think the whole Isa- family is overexposed, and the name is inexorably linked to Isadora Duncan for me, and while fascinating to read about hers is not the path I would want my daughter to follow. Particularly the end of that path.

Date: 2012-06-20 04:58 am (UTC)Results:
Curtis: Not a fan of this form, I prefer Kurt.
Robert: Don't particularly care for it.
Brighton: I like it. I remember I liked it when I used to watch The Nanny. This was the son's name.
Oliver: I'm a fan of it.
Justice: Ew, no.
Leo: Leo always seemed a nickname to me. I prefer Leopold or Leonidas.
Henry: Always a good choice.
Caroline: If it's pronounced Caro-Line, I like it. If pronounced Caro-Lyn, I do not.
Grace: My great-grandmother's name, a nice middle name.
Amelia: I like it, but wouldn't use it.
Emmy: Sounds too much like a nickname.
Ava: No. Just no.
Perri: It's cute, but not my style.
Charlotte: Will always be a town name to me.
Lila: I can't make a decision whether I like this or not.

Date: 2012-06-20 05:30 am (UTC)Athena - Can't say I dislike it, but it's the name of my grandfather's ex-wife, so I wouldn't name my daughter this.
Kenyatta - Pretty, but I wouldn't use it.
Leslie - The name of one of my closest friends, but aside from her, I can't stand it.
Helena - I've never really liked it, and this is the name that one of my friends from high school was dead-set on naming her first daughter... bad associations now.
Valeria - Completely dislike it, the sound is too harsh for me. The fact that one of my nursery school kids was named this is the only redeeming factor in my eyes.
Rachel - I can't think of a name I like less than this.
Victoria - I would love this name if I liked any of the nicknames for it. I have only good associations with Victorias, though, so it's probably my favorite of the bunch.
Paisley - 90's-trendy, plus it makes me think of Brad Paisley. I love him, but not enough to name my kid after him.
Ari - I actually find this to be a sweet name... it brings to mind a bit of a momma's boy. But I wouldn't feel comfortable with using it, unless his father was Greek.
Omari - Same deal as with Ari. I like it, but the ethnicity makes me uncomfortable using it unless there was a connection.
Noah - My favorite of the boys' names here, but still not too high on my list.
Robert - Boring.
Cedric - The Harry Potter nerd in me says yes, but the nicknamey part of me is going "Ced? ... Ricky? D:"
Quinn - I think this has become too much of a girl's name for me. I don't mind boys having "girlier" names, but boyish names that are now being used for girls are a no-go to me.
Parker - Too trendy, do not want.
Am I just horribly picky? :/ Admittedly, I don't like a lot of names, and I like them to be a bit... precious and old-fashioned, I guess.
Or themed. I may just be a bad person and my future children may already hate me.

Date: 2012-06-20 06:06 am (UTC)Results:
Walter - Love it! I don't like it enough to use it, though. I think of Breaking Bad, too.
Henry - If Henry weren't so popular right now, I'd totally use it. The DH and I were thinking about using it for a long time.
Gilbert - I don't know why, but this name doesn't sit well with me. I say it really funny. I like its meaning, though.
Basil - Cute, but more of a guilty pleasure name for me. I would use it on a pet. I LOVE the spice.
Owen - Lovely name. We have friends with an Owen so I don't know if we would use it. I like nn options and Owen doesn't really provide that.
Edmund - I love this name too but it sounds so British to me that my American accent doesn't do it justice. My grandpa was Edward, so I'd love to use something similar (like Edwin, too) to honor him.
Oliver - Very nice name, but popular.
Alice - Simple and nice. Too simple for me.
Winifred - It's cute, but I'd never use it.
Audrey - Love Audrey! I have a cousin Austin so it's kind of too close sounding (considering my grandma calls Austin "Audy")
Elizabeth - Elizabeth is... Elizabeth. It's a great name but too boring-classic for me.
Charlotte - Very popular, but very nice.
Grace - Meh. I don't like virtue names much. Grace is so filler now-a-days.
Rowena - A beautiful name!
Florence - I just think of the nn Flo and that makes me think of aunt Flo. :-/ It's a pretty name though.
I'm not really surprised by any of these suggestions.
I pronounce Antonia like "ahn-TONE-ya."

Oliver - I love this name.

Girls - Lydia, Leah, Anastasia
Antonia - I really like this.
Ivy - No.
Julia - Very pretty.
Elizabeth/Elisabeth - I love Elizabeth.

Elsa - This makes me think of the lioness.
Ella - Meh.
Nina - Meh.
Grace - I love this name.
Charlotte - I really like this.
Veronica - Very pretty.
Anna - No.
Leila - I love this name.
I can see why they gave me so many Jewish names for the boys, although I didn't like most of them. But I wonder why they didn't give the same amount of Jewish names for the girls. They did a much better job picking girl's names that I like.

Date: 2012-06-20 06:17 am (UTC)Boys:
Lawrence - not really my style but I don't hate it
Henry - love!
Benjamin - my cousin's name
Alexander - love!

Girls:
Mary - I like it but can't see myself using it
Ava - eh
Charlotte - love but probably wouldn't use
Olivia - love love love!
Joanna - might consider it
Elizabeth - maybe as a middle name
Anna - maybe as a middle name

Doreen - my aunt's name.
Angelique - gag, no.
Evangeline - gag, no.
Amelia - Eh, cutesy popular.
Ella - same as Amelia.
Lucy - considered it as a middle name for my girl, in honour of my great-aunt

Date: 2012-06-20 06:41 am (UTC)The names I used - boys: Phineas, Grayson, Colin
The results I got:
Girls
Ava - Not bad. Not sure I'd use it, but I don't mind it.
Ashlynn - Seems a bit preppy for my tastes. Not my style.
Payton - As an American football fan all I can think of is Peyton Manning (now quarterback for the Denver Broncos) or Sean Payton (head coach of the New Orleans Saints). Both are men, thus sinking it as a girl's name for me. I do think it works for a girl, mind, but not for mine. Which is too bad because I kinda like it.
Camryn - Love this one. Just may end up on my list of possibilities.
Harper - Makes me think of Selena Gomez's character's best friend on Wizards of Waverly Place. She was quirky and fun if a little ditzy. Which doesn't exactly eliminate the name as a possibility, but I'm still not sure if I'd use it.
Charlotte - Another love. Has always been on my possibility list.
Brooklynn - Not bad, but not quite my style.
Tamsin - Yet another love. Going on the possibility list.
Boys
Noah - Love this one, but it's the name of a main character in the novel I'm writing. Doesn't eliminate it, but it makes me think twice.
Collin - Um, I have this one on my list of inspirations... If I wanted this spelling, I would have spelled it this way...
Evan - I've always liked this one. It's further down on the possibility list.
Tobin - As a Ghostbusters fan, when I see this one I think of the guys' main resource book, Tobin's Spirit Guide. Which now that I think of it isn't a point against it. I'll have to ponder this one...
Brennan - I'm pretty sure this is the main female character's first name on Bones (my mom is a big fan while I've only seen a few episodes casually). Thus taking it out of the running as a boy's name for me.
Madison - To date me, the first time I heard this as a name for a person (besides the last name of a president) was Darryl Hannah's mermaid character in the movie Splash. So it's always been a girl's name for me. So, no on the boy's name.
Owen - I like it, but I know too many little Owens. So I won't be using it.

Amelia - Makes me think of Mia from The Princess Diaries
Grace - Eh
Olivia - I don't mind it
Ava - Too popular for me
Cordelia - Slightly more like that dislike
Elizabeth - A bit old-fashioned but I don't mind
Guy - Not a fan
Noah - Don't much like this one either
Curtis - Eh
Benjamin - I'm not a fan of this one either

Ava- dislike
Henry- love.
Anna - like this a lot but wouldn't use it
Owen - Feels last namey to me
Felix - I just think of this as a cat name
Charlotte - I wanted this as a mn/possible first name but it now has negative connotations for me
Ross - Like, not love.
Ella - I like this a lot as it has similar sounds to my other names but I don't love it the way I do the others
Grace - I don't see the appeal with grace... I don't think it's very pretty.. I prefer Gracie but that seems too like a nn for me to use
Johanna - too similar to my own name to consider
James - I love this and it's a family name but my husband and I both have J names so we generally try to avoid becoming a family of Js
Elise - same as Ella
Bert- I'd prefer it as a nn for Albert or something but it's just nms.
Elizabeth - I like the nn options but I tend to prefer shorter names. I also find it a little boring.
Noah - I love this but it's just ridiculous with my last name.

I really like Benjamin and Adrian is a good name too. Grace and Elizabeth are amongst my favourite girls names. I quite like Lily anyway so I think Lila is cute. Caroline is nice but its too close to my mum's name, Carol Ann. I don't really like Eva and Ava but that is because both are stupidly popular around here and I guess I just like longer names.

Girls:
Meta-I've never heard this before. Assume it's met-a, not meet-a. Not sure I like it.
Lina-Again, not one I'm familiar with. Don't really like how it looks.
Charlotte-I've always liked this name, I think it's very sweet.
Katarina-Not my style, but pretty. I like the sound of it!
Violet-Very sweet, though can't really imagine on an adult as much as a child
Georgette-Eh
Monika-This is my Omi's name. I love they way she says it (she is german) which is Moe-ne-ca, rather than Ma-ne-ca.
Lena-This is already on my list!
Boys:
Owen-Cute, but too common
Jack-Again, very cute and would like as a nickname, but very popular
Anton-This always feels like there's a letter missing (I always want it to be Antoin(e) instead, in my head)
Cornell-Not bad, but would hate the idea of "corny" as a nickname
Oliver-It's cute
Basil-I adore this name! Likely wouldn't use it, but still love the sound of it
Alexander-It's fine

Tam is interesting, it reminds me of the ballad of Tam Lin, which I like, but I'm not sure I'd want to name my child after that character. :P The only names from that list I'd actually use would be James, Owen, Grace, or Lena.

Results:
Alistair - I like this name a good bit, but I have sworn to never use a name that begins with that letter.
Tobin - I used to kind of like this as an alternative to Tobias, but it strikes me now as too...cutesy? childish? It just doesn't sound like a grown up name to me.
Guy - Ugh. I have never liked this name. It was the name of a neighbor growing up and I didn't care for him. Plus, it is used so much as a word; it feels like naming your kid "Man." Although, it could be the French "ghee," which is marginally better.
Colin - It's...okay. I used to kind of like it but not anymore.
James - I do quite like the name James, but it's already my nephew's middle.
Kenneth - It has grown on me lately as having a kind of nice sound, but I flip flop on that a lot even, and I don't like the nn Ken.
Ross - The sound is okay, but I don't like the meaning.
Brittany - this is way too 90s trendy for me. Ick.
Bridgett - I've never really liked this name that I can recall, and there was a girl in high school of whom I do not have the most fond of memories. Also, I don't get the -tt ending.
Emma - Nice enough. It's a classic and is pretty, I suppose; it just doesn't do much for me for some reason.
Sabrina - I've never much liked this name. I don't care for the teenage witch connection, and although I like the Audrey Hepburn movie by that name well enough, it's nowhere near enough to endear the name to me.
Ashlynn - No!
Shauna - No.
Sarah - I like it okay. It's been on my list since I first started thinking about names in the second grade. It's come off of it a few times and is probably going to leave my list again shortly. It might work as a middle, but I'm just not feeling the love for it anymore.
Caroline - Dislike. Dislike. Dislike.
I seriously don't understand where they got more than half of these names, and that's not just because I dislike almost all of them. Some of the ones I dislike make sense, but overall...what?

Date: 2012-06-20 03:19 pm (UTC)Henry - It's nice but really overused.
James - Nice but boring.
Theo - I like it.
Alexander Again, nice but very popular.
Ross - No.
Benjamin - Nice but blah.
Clement - No.
Bea - It's okay.
Delta - No.
Lena - Love this name. It's on my list.
Maxie - No no no no no no no. No.
Emily - Boring.
Germaine - Never heard of this name before but it's interesting.
Reva - Never heard this one either but not really feeling it.
Elizabeth - Boring and popular.
I may try some other names because it didn't really capture my style at all. None of the names were particularly bad (Ross, Clement, Delta, and Maxie are borderline) but none of this is really me and I don't see how they got those suggestions from the names I submitted.

Date: 2012-06-20 03:44 pm (UTC)My input was as follows: Marek, Nathan, Alexander, Anya, Georgina, Marigold
Boys:
Sterling - LOVE THIS!!
James - have always been a fan
Mitchell - not bad
Ivan - another good one
Kenyatta - WTF. The one and only Kenyatta I've ever known was a girl...
William - will be our future son's middle name, in honor of both of our deceased grandfathers
Benjamin - another possibility if we have multiple sons!
Girls:
Charlotte - meh
Grace - even more meh
Katarina - I adore the name Katarina...too bad it's just another version of my name
Anna - classic and pretty
Isabella - nuh uh
Sonia - I prefer Sonja or Sonya, but still a nice name
Elizabeth - another classic
Caroline - like it
Overall a very bland selection, though. I think I'll stick with my actual favorites.
