Let me preface this with the family is from Sierra Leon. These names may be utterly common in Sierra Leon...in Dallas, they caught my attention -

Dad: Mustapha
Mom: Fanta
Son: Daddy

It was the Daddy that caught my eye...then all I could see was Fanta soda and Mustapha from the Lion King....

Except for Daddy, those are pretty common amongst the African population. I work in an area with a high African population. What I have noticed is that some take terms of endearments and use them as first names to honor that person.

I know some immigrants come here and wanting to give their kids common american names, listen around and name their kid whatever they hear people calling other people the most. I don't know that this could really apply here.. I'd think they'd figure out what "Daddy" meant.

I have probably mentioned this here at some point before, but... In high school, my friend had a girl in her class who was from Africa, and her name translated to "Chinese Girl" and that was what she went by. Most people just called here Chinese.

Simba's dad is Mufasa, not Mustapha, but the Genie does call Aladdian a "Doubting Mustapha" in Aladdin. Daddy is rather odd, though. What's he going to call his dad now?
