Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof have welcomed their second daughter: Keeva Jane. Their first daughter is named Satyana Marie. Satyana is still a name that I don't know how to pronounce, so I personally like Keeva Jane a lot more.

According to Behind the Name, it is the Anglicized form of Caoimhe, Gaelic for beautiful, gentle, and kind. So, actually, now that I know what it is and what it means, I kind of like it a lot. It's interesting to me.

WDYT?

And WDYT of Anglicizing names like Caoimhe, presumably to aid in their pronunciation? Because I like the way Caoimhe looks.

I'm pretty sure Satyana is pronounced "sat-ee-ah-na" because Alyson refers to her as Sati, which she pronounces "sat-ee". I think it would look nicer if it was spelled Satiana, but in general, I like it. I think Keeva Jane is cute.

I'm probably biased because I love Alyson Hannigan.

My bad. I just found the tweet where she said Sati is "Sah-tee"

It's kind of cute. And she did the right thing...some Gaelic spellings can throw English speakers' pronunciation off. It goes against everything in our heads to look at the letters "mh" and pronounce them with a "v" sound!

Even though I love Gaelic names, I can't help wanting to say "cam-hee" when I look at the original spelling, so I don't blame her for using the anglicized version. Keeva is pretty and unique.

I'm not into giving kids names that will CONSTANTLY be mispronounced for the duration of their life - and not just in little ways; we're talking NOT EVEN IN THE RIGHT BALLPARK with some of the more traditional Gaelic ones. It's really, really, really unfair and it would piss me off, either as a parent or as the owner of the name.

Also, my name is Desiree and enough people mispronounce it as "desire-e" that I just don't even bother to correct them at all anymore.

I can imagine all the Caoimhes that have effectively become "Cam-he" because everyone and their mother thinks that's it, and after 30 years it's too much effort to correct it all the time.

Caoimhe is one that would be misspelled ALL THE TIME. I don't mind her for using Keeva. I probably just wouldn't use the name all together.

Names like Rhys, Ciara, Niamh, Siobhan... I like those with the original spellings (maybe a few are pushing it). I think they are far more popular in the US than Caoimhe, though.

I *KNOW* that Niamh is "neev" and I STILL read it as "nee-amha" every freaking time I see it. For that reason alone, I am glad she spelled Caoimhe "Keeva".

I LOVE Caoimhe but I hate Anglicised versions. I get why people do it but I'm all for the traditional spelling.

I totally agree with you. I understand the rationale but Caoimhe is gorgeous and deserves to be used in original form

I'm pretty sure Satyana is "Sah-tee-yah-na". I think it's really pretty.

Keeva is cute. Caoimhe looks awesome, like a lot of Gaelic names do, but it would be impossible for most Americans to pronounce, so going with an Anglicized version seems pretty reasonable. Nameberry claims that the male version of Caoimhe is Caoimhin, which we all know better as Kevin.

Regardless of what I think of Satyana's name, the kid is adorable and I just can't help loving her <3 hahahaha. I like Keeva though :)
