What names do you like that are completely way out there? I'm sure everyone has them. If names weren't so important and prone to being picked on by children etc, then these names are ones I might have even considered. Some names I don't think are TOO way out there though so may actually end up using them.

I really like the names:

Girl:

Echo
Storm
Sparrow
Rose-Petal
Tigerlily
Meadow
Yuna
Avalon
Wynter

Boy:

Jazz
Felix
River
Forrest

I'm looking forward to reading about other members guilty pleasure names.

Bah ha ha. I use mine on Sims too. :D
I think Glory-Lynn is pretty. And I know someone with a little girl named Lyric, so Song doesn't sound that out-there to me.

I have a bunch of other names that some people might think are out there, but I don't. These are the ones that even I have to admit are kind of weird, lol.

I really like Briar for a boy, and I'm totally willing to use it! I've liked it for a boy for so long, though, that I really can't see it on a girl-- even with the Sleeping Beauty reference. :/

I really like Atlas! And Edmund is my favorite character in the Chronicles of Narnia so that name is near and dear. :)

I don't think Felix is that out there, and Jazz can be a nickname for Jasper.

When I was a teenager I wanted to name a girl Empathy (nn Emmy). I still secretly think this name is awesome, even though it totally doesn't fit my current naming style.

There are a number of French names which I like, but our last name is similar to DeVito, and we speak English at home, I don't think we could get away with them. Names like Zéphirine and Maëlys.

I've always had a thing for Zelda for a girl, but would never have the guts to use it.

The host of an online news show I really like, named his son Prometheus. I think what makes it even more awesome is that he's Turkish, and his wife is Asian. There's such a disconnect in my head that it just makes me happy. There are lots of names from mythology that I would love to use for a kid, but likely won't.

Also on my "probably won't ever use" list are names from fiction, such as any of Tolkien's names, though I once met a little girl named Eowyn and I loved it so much.

Another would be Killashandra; I love it from a book, but I don't think I could get away with it, if only because the nickname would be Killa.

Tolkien's names are beautiful! I have a friend who has "Peregrin" on her girl's list. I think you could definitely get away with it especially if you could nn it something like Perry, which is adorable imo.

I can only think of two and I'm not sure how "out there" they really are:

Lola - my paternal grandmother's middle name
Effie - my maternal grandmother's first name

Date: 2012-06-01 06:09 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] home-to-me.livejournal.com
Effie is so pretty. I always thought it sounded cool (was the one girl's sister in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"), but never knew where it came from. I think it's adorable, but would want it to be short for something.

I think my guilty pleasure would be using names that are boyish on girls. I had to create a family on the Sims to get it out of my system.

For girls, I secretly (okay, not so secretly now!) love the names:
Chandler
Spencer
Sawyer
Harper
Parker
Emerson

I don't think I have any boy ones... I like common boy names... and haven't put a whole lot of thought into having boys, since I'm convinced that I will have all girls. lol.

Yay Sims! Haha.

I like Sawyer and Spencer for girls. There was a post recently about someone who's considering Sawyer for her maybe-daughter. That was the first time I'd ever considered it, but I think it really works!

I used mine on my cats:

Maisie and Edie. And they are both beautiful names for beautiful girls!

(Their big brother is Cookie... so not really the sort of name you could use on a human and be taken seriously!)

Honestly, I don't care one tiny bit what others think about our names. Potential teasing didn't enter the equation at all (partially because we homeschool, but also because ALL kids will be teased about *something*. My name, like a billion other 80s babies, is Amanda, and I got teased. I mean, come on. It's really ridiculous.) Anyway, guess my point is that we named our kids what we wanted regardless. And the result of an Amanda marrying a Josh is that we have babies we've named Eden Mahjia, Ivy Grace, and Maya Sky.

I also really liked Meadow, but I actually wouldn't pick that one simply because I've met several of them since Sopranos had a girl named Meadow. We actually shoot for less popular names. Of course, since we named them, we've met quite a few other Edens. I had that name picked out since I was a kid. We only met others in our old hippy town though. Here in MO, no other Edens that I know of. I've learned through this comm. that Ivy is apparently really popular now too, though I've not met another one nor heard of it outside of here. I've also always REALLY loved the name Adele, but then that singer had to go get super famous, so it was crossed off our list due to potential over-popularity in the coming years. Made me sad. I'm also a huge Eleanor fan, but I couldn't ever win my hubby over to it.

I actually really like all of your name choices. Except Mahjia, but only because I am not familiar at all with it. Don't know if I like it or not. But like you said - who cares? Ivy was on my potential list at one point. :) I also really like Adele, and I do love the singer, but wouldn't use it because people would all assume that's where it came from. :(

I never liked Aiden much because I thought it was too trendy but ever since watching Aiden Grimshaw on the X Factor series 7, I've become obsessed with it. I think it's one of those instances for me where I see the name actually suit somebody well so I come to like it a lot. I don't know if I could actually use it though T___T

Funny how some people's "out there" names are perfectly normal to others. My list:

Boys:
Gilbert
Ethan
Ziad
Conway

Girls:
Ida Rose

Umm, I'm trying to think of more, but that's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

The only people who would get the Yuna reference are ones who would think it was awesome anyway, and I like Meadow and Sparrow for girls. I also like Felix for boys, and Forrest isn't really that out there anymore (I think of Forest Whitaker).

My mother thinks Cordelia is "out there" for a girl, but I love it as a girl's name. Nobody else in my family does, so I probably won't use it.
