My husband and I were discussing names last night and a couple came up...

Nathan
Emmett
Nico - as a nn for Nicholas (unless there's anything else?)
Gabriel
Zachary
Lewis/Louis
Lucas

Then we thought, are we going to give our potential son a girls name? Do any of these names seem feminine to you? The main one that made my husband mention this was Emmett, which is also his favourite of the bunch.

Middle name would be a family name out of: Edward, Charles, John, James, Peter, Marcus and Shaun. Combo ideas welcome.

none of those names is feminine. Emmett is about as feminine as Andrea is masculine..

all in all, nice bunch of names.

Andrea is a masculine name, in some parts of Europe. It's the same as Andrew.

I've always loved Nico as a stand alone name, growing up I had a friend named Nico.

Nico sounds more like a standalone name than a NN to me. Nick would get asked if it was a short form more than Nico would, I think.

It is actually very common amongst people from the former Yugoslavia area. The boy I grew up with was born there when it was still Yugoslavia. I know I just dated myself!, lol. But I love the simplicity of it.

None of those seem feminine to me at all. I've never heard of Emmett as a girl's name.

Possible Combos:

Emmett Peter
Zachary Charles
Lucas John
Gabriel Peter
Louis Edward
Zachary Shaun
Nicholas Peter
Gabriel Marcus
Louis Charles

Gabriel Peter

... XD

Intentional or unintentional Peter Gabriel reference?

A little of both. My brother's name is Peter Gabriel, accidentally named after the singer (he had a schoolmate who was also a Peter Gabriel, too), and I've just always thought it was a pretty combination.

Emmett is my favorite of the bunch. I also like Zachary and Lucas. I dislike Louis/Lewis, but it's because of my own weird association with the name.

I think Emmett Charles or Emmett James would sound great. :)

Emmett is the name of a secondary character in Twilight. Other than that, though, I find Emmett a nice name.

I know both a male and a female Nico, so I could see it either way. I see it as a stand alone name, though.

They're not hyper-masculine or anything, but that doesn't make them feminine. That said, I have met both a male and a female Nico so if femininity is a concern, the fact that it can be unisex is something to consider. I think it sounds more masculine though. The male Nico I met kind of bothers me so I have somewhat negative connotations with it. Still, I can see how people might like it.

Gabriel has always bothered me for some reason, but it's not a bad name and I actually really like the nn Gabe. The only one I really, really love is Louis. It's on my own list. The rest I am pretty neutral on, but they're all good names, even if not to my personal taste.

I would stay away from the combination Emmett Edward because, as someone else mentioned, Emmett is a character in Twilight and so is, of course, Edward. It's unfortunate, really, because I like the way it sounds. Of course, a lot of people don't care for the repetition of first letters.

Nathan James
Emmett Peter
Nico Marcus
Nicholas John
Gabriel Charles
Zachary Charles
Lewis John
Louis Charles
Lucas James

I do not see one name that is feminine at all on the list. You're safe!! :)

I grew up with a Nicco, short for Niccolo. If you're not Italian, that might be weird though. I think Nico is the nickname I would use for Nicholas, since I hate most of the Nicks I've met but love the name Nicholas.

I really like a lot of the names you've listed. Most of them are on my boys' names list or have been at some point.

My son is named Lucas, I don't think it's feminine at all.

I love the name Nico on it's own as well.

I like the name Nico on it's own as well. I actually don't like is as a nickname for Nicholas, to be honest.

I don't think any of those names sound feminine to me.

Also, I have a 2.5 year old named Emmett Edward. It's an awesome name, I think, but then I'm a bit partial. ;)

No, they're all pretty traditional boys' names.
