There's a name that I am kinda beginning to really like, and I'd like your input on it.

Carsyn/Karsyn.

It's pronounced like Carson, the Y just makes it more feminine. What does everyone think? Any bad nicknames that can come from it? Or anything it sounds similar to that could be offputting? The only thing that puts me off slightly is the word 'carcinogen' or 'carcinogenic' which is a chemical that is known to cause cancer.

I disagree, the Y doesn't make it feminine, it makes it look misspelled.

That being said, its your baby, etc.

I also am not really into "boy" names for girls, so to each their own. :)

We'll likely be pregnant around the same time, if all goes according to plan, so Yay!

I do the same thing. :)

+1

It always makes me think the parents wanted a boy so badly they didn't even consider any girls names at all.

I agree. Plus a name with "son" is better suited to sons, in my opinion.

I agree.

...preferable one whose father actually has the name the first part of the name indicates he is the son of.

I'm not quite that strict, but it would be nice to see that happen more often

Yep. Agree with you.

I think the Y makes into one of those "trendy misspelled" names that the kid would grow up forever telling people how to spell.

Even for a girl, I'd rather name my kid Carson than one of those spellings.

But like the other commenter said, to each their own!

I think it just looks like another trendy, misspelled name.

I don't like it because 1. I hate kre8tuv speelings and 2. Carson is boys name.

I like Carson, but I don't like it spelled with a y.

I don't hate Carson for a boy, but I don't love it either.

I dislike the name, whatever the spelling, for a girl. It just sounds too masculine for a girl, in my opinion.

I really dislike Carson with a K and I down right hate Carson with a y.

It just doesn't fit on a girl.

Also, like everyone else has said, it's uber-trendy.

Yeah, for the most part people in this community do not like trendy spellings or replacing letters with y's. As for the name, it's not my style but not completely horrible.

No, the Y doesn't make it more "feminine". It makes it Carson spelled with a Y, which just looks misspelled.

I love Carson for a boy though.

Adding another "The Y makes it look like a cre8iv misspelled mess".

I like Carson for a boy or a girl because I do like boy's names on girls(I am Georgia and have been George to a lot of people for as long as I can remember), but spell it properly.

Looking up Carsyn redirects to Carson:
"Transferred use of the surname meaning "Carr's son." The name Carr is of several derivations. It is from the Middle English and Scottish car, carre (marsh, mossy place), from the Welsh caer (a fort), and from the Gaelic carr (rock)."

Carsyn/Karsyn both show up as feminine so your idea that the Y makes it feminine is valid... I don't personally like it, but if I didn't know a male Carson in real life I'd probably never think about it. It appears that other people like it, including some who have the name, so go for it!

I don't mind Carson on a girl, but I wouldn't use the y. Makes me think of Carson McCullers, not her given first name but still a cool namesake.

I'm agreeing with everyone who said the Y doesn't make it more feminine - it makes it look trendy and misspelled.

Also agreeing that Carson is a boy's name. It's not one I would use, but that's just my personal preference.

Sorry, I don't think it's a good name for a girl. I don't mind it on boys.

How does misspelling a name make is more feminine? Does adding a Y to London, Brandon, Cole, Joel, Phillip, Joseph, George, James, Charles, etc. make them any more 'girly'?

That being said, I don't like Carson for a boy either.

I know a little girl who has a sister named Cari (I'm guessing on the spelling, but it's pronounced like the first syllable of Carson but ending with an ee sound instead of the traditional Care-ee pronunciation) and I've always liked that for a girl. I'm not liking Carson too much for a girl, but there are few boy names that I like for girls. If I was going to name my girl Carson though, I'd spell it like that. I'm not big on y's being put in for other vowels.

My brother's name is Carson, and he has had little girls come up to him and go "my name is Carson, you have a GIRL'S name."

Of course, his answer once was "... Your parents named you a boy name. Carson means "Son of Car, or Carl, or Carter, or something like that. They must not love you!"
