We have a wonderful 5 year old daughter, Felicity at home and 3 year old Theodore and just found out we are welcoming number 3. With my last two it was incredibly quickly decided those were there names, very very early on in pregnancy. This time i'm letting my partner chose, and he has decided on Channing for a little boy, and Indiana for a little girl. The name Indiana is incredibly important to him, and the nickname Indi/Ana I am in love with but i'm not sold on either of them. Opinions? they are definitely different to my usual taste and we'd love something to go with the 'flow' of the 2 other childrens names. Any suggestions/opinions on the chosen names? all are welcome!

I like Channing and it sounds good as part of your sib set. All three names have a formal sound to them but are still cute. Not so much a fan of Indiana. I am not a fan of place names and they can be a hard name to live with. Unless there was a really good reason I would push for a compromise. Diana is close and you can still use Ana as a nickname.

I think Indiana works really well with Theodore and Felicity :D I'm not a huge fan of Channing, it kinda feels 'charming' or something to me :p

I love Channing! I think it works really well with Felicity and Theodore.

Indiana is okay, but I might be less likely to use it because I live in the USA. (And in reference to your previous response, I love the names Adelaide and Sydney. Haha.) What about Deanna? That way her nick would be Dee or Anna instead of Di, and it sounds like the pronunciation of Indiana. Are there any other names that are important to your partner, or any that remind him of Indiana? Would he consider using it as a middle name?

In the US I really don't care for it, but since you're in Australia I think it would be cute. I don't think it really goes with Felicity and Theodore. They aren't cutesy names which I think Indiana is. Maybe with the nn Ana I could see going with your other kids names. Maybe a middle name. Channing goes well with Felicity and Theodore.

I'm in the US, but I still like Indiana. I think the nickname Indi/Indy is pretty cool. I like it much more than Ana as a nickname. Would you pronounce Ana as "Anna" (which makes sense to me with the sounds in Indiana) or as Ah-na (which makes sense to me given the spelling of Ana with one N)

Do you use nicknames for Felicity or Theodore?

I think Channing flows better with your other two names, but I wouldn't blink twice if heard either sib-set.

Oh, and congrats on expecting number 3
:-)

I'm not sure that Channing or Indiana fits as part of your sibset. Felicity and Theodore are classic, but not overly common names, while Channing and Indiana are more modern. Also, are you planning to use Indiana as a girl's name? Thanks to Dr. Jones, it comes across as fairly masculine to me.

Perhaps you could work these names in a middle names with more classic first names? Like Philip Channing or Dominic Channing or Amelie Indiana?

How about Indra as a nickname for Indiana? :)

I LOVE the name Indiana, though I prefer it spelled with two N's at the end. Personally, I don't think it's that weird to use a place name when you live nowhere near the place (for example, right now I'm pretty set on using the name Adelaide, and I also love Georgia and Indiana, but I don't think of the places at all connected to those names because I live in Canada).
I'm not a huge fan of Channing, but I'm not sure why. It just isn't sitting right with me, but if you like it, go for it. If we all liked the same names, we'd all have the same name, and that would just be boring.

Channing makes me think of Stockard Channing, so it almost sounds feminine to me. But neither name is my style, and both Felicity and Theodore are, so I feel like they don't go together well.

Theodore and Felicity are such traditional sounding names -- Indiana is just... not.

Same with Channing.

To fit better something like Eliza, Louisa, Amy, or another more traditional name would go well.

With Theodore, for a boy, something like Nicholas, Dominic, Anthony, Zachary etc.
