I've been thinking about a couple of names lately that I'd like some opinions on.

Hazel -- is it too old lady-ish? When I first started hearing this name, all I could think was "god what a stuffy old lady name!" but it's starting to grow on me.

Corbin -- sometimes seems too young, but the guy I met with this name was in his late 30s/early 40s and it didn't seem out of place on him. I think it's kind of nice. Not terribly common, but not too 'out there' either.

What do you guys think of these two names?

I really like them both, especially Hazel.

I like Hazel as a mn, but not as a first. It does remind me of a little old lady name. Corbin I like. I know someone in his 30s and a kid who is 16 and both of them seem to fit well with the name; it works for a lot of ages.

Hazel sounds like a witch name. And I knew a kid named Corbin- he was a doughy spoiled Mama's Boy, and he drove me crazy (step-son of my old boss)

I've e-known a bunch of Corbins lately (little baby ones), but I kind of like the name. And I think Hazel is nice and no, not too old-ladyish.

I do like Hazel. I think it deserves a come back a la Emma, which I grew up thinking was the worst old lady name out there.

I like them both, especially Hazel. Then again, I really like several classic, "old" names.

I think Hazel is nice. My husband's grandmother was Hazel.

I know a child (6 years) named Corbin. He has a twin named Brenton. I'm not crazy about any of those names. I think its because, to me, they are too old sounding for little babies (I knew the twins when they were babies).

I like Corbin. I first started liking it after the Fifth Element. It's on my top 10.

My friends have a dog named Hazel, so I can't think of anything else when I hear that name.

I can't quite jump on the Hazel bandwagon.. I can't put my finger on it, there's just something I don't like about it.. maybe it's the Z in the middle.

Corbin.. well, if I met a Corbin, I'd think his parents were trying a little 'too hard' to come up with something different.. =/

How's that for useless criticism? ;)

I don't like Corbin. It reminds me of corned beef.

LMFAO

Well Hazel reminds me of the rabbit in Watership Down which reminds me of the high school English teacher that I hated. haha

And Corbin reminds me of The Fifth Element which, don't get me wrong, I love, but because of that movie the name just sounds a little too out there and futuristic to me.

I like the idea of Hazel. I love nature/tree names and it has that kicky little Z too. But it has a harsh grating sound that I just can't warm up to, no matter how I try. The association with Watership Down is nice -- I love that book so much.

Corbin is nice, but I detest the nn Cory so much, I'd avoid using Corbin for that reason.

I know someone on LJ whose name is Hazel, and she's in her early twenties...she spells it "Haizle," though.

I love Hazel, it's really pretty. I don't think it sounds old-ladyish really.

Corbin is okay, I guess.

I quite like Hazel.
Corbin makes me think of The Fifth Element (which I love). But it also makes me think of Chris Tucker saying "Corbin Dallas" in his annoying voice.

Hazel sounds like an old lady, a pretty young girl or a male rabbit with great leadership skills, depending on what kind of mood I'm in ;)

I love the name Corbin.

I've got a Corbin. I HATE any Fifth Element reference, it annoys me to no end, I didn't even know of the damned movie until my son was a year old. Everyone kept going Corbin Dallas, Savior of the Universe! and I just thought they were nuts until my Ex rented the movie for me to watch. I'm glad I didn't know about it till after or it may have turned me off from the name :P I think it's weird people say it sounds made up or that you're trying too hard, it's an OLD name. Anyway, I love it, (obviously :) Hazel is just ok for me.

I like Hazel, enough that I've put thought to actually using it.

I dislike Corbin. it just sounds mispronounced, because it brings Billy Corgan to mind. *shrugs*
