The hardest thing is finding something you both like. The ideal being that you find a name you both LOVE. Here's a list of names for girls we have tossed back and forth. Opinions? New suggestions?

One name I want to add to the list is Cassidy. I love the name, but I hardly have a lick of Irish in me and my DH is Mexican. (We plan to give an American/European first name with a Mexican/Spanish middle name, though will make an exception if needed). Does it matter?

Just some disclaimers... Lupe is a joke name for us, it sounds funny with our last name. Shamsiah is an Arabic name that I love- we are part of a Sufi order. Some of the names I like and he doesn't, some he likes and I don't. Some we agree on. Last name is Lepe.

It's actually Honey-a (uh). A name of a Mexican news reporter that we both love and admire. I scoured google trying to find a picture to link here, but I don't recall her last name and couldn't find anything! This is one of the only 3-4 names on the list that we both like a lot. DH says that his ex named her daughter that though, so it might be a no go. I am still ok with it though... their relationship was a long time ago and her daughter is probably 10 years old or more by now!
Lyra is one of my ultimate favorites, but I think we've got to nix the L names because last name starts with L.

I like Astrid Magdalena, Corinne Esperanza, Bianca Ximena, Shamsiah Camille, and Lyra Chiara a lot. Most of your name choices are gorgeous.

- Shamsiah is kind of pretty, but Shamsi sounds kind of silly to me. Also, I don't know how I feel about actually using a name that has "sham" in it being as the word in English means a fake/fraud/hoax. It also makes me think of shams you wash your car with and pillow shams.
- I like Ximena somewhat too, but I could see middle schoolers purposely butchering it into HYMEN-uh. Of course, you said Spanish names would be for the middle, correct? So I'm guessing that name isn't in the running for a first? In that case, it wouldn't matter so much.
- Esperanza is pretty. Again, I'm guessing this is a middle name option, which is kind of too bad, as I think I like it best with the last name. That said, I'm not too sure what a good nickname would be if it was in the first name slot. Esa/Eza? That's kind of cute.
- Ariadne is cool and it sounds okay with the last name.
- Chiara and Hanniah also sound nice with the last name, although I don't care for the look of Chiara. Hanniah would probably get called Hannah by a lot of people thinking it's a typo.
- The other names are either ones I don't care for or have the 'L' sound too close to the beginning of the last name, which I don't think sounds as pleasing as other combinations.

Shamsiah is a beautiful name with a beautiful meaning to me. I first heard of it when reading an article about a girl in Pakistan/Afghanistan (can't remember which place now, I think the latter) who went to a school for girls even though it was discouraged by the community, she went anyway despite the dangers and one day the girls were attacked with acid. After she healed, she went back to school. Shams means "sun" in Arabic. It's pronounced "shumsiah". But I won't make it her legal civil name, but I am already using it as her cover name in my LJ and other blog, just as I call my son "Noori" which is Arabic for "my light".

Of the names you suggested I love Yesenia. Unfortunately, I had a no so pleasant student by that name. Agatha, Helena, Emiliana, and a form of Carolina.. Coraline are other names on your list I like.

Ximena was our first love, but surprisingly it comes in at #2 in popularity in Mexico for this generation.Chiara is one of my current favorites, but no so loved by DH. And Hanniah is one we both like a lot.

Roxanne Magdalena is a real possibility for us. I love both these names, I think DH doesn't like Esperanza because it is too "traditional", but I love it. Of course he says that and loves Magdalena!

Astrid was on my list, but I'm having a boy and this is my last baby, so there that went. Maybe I'll use it on a pet eventually. But anyway, I obviously love that name if it was on my list. :)

I also love Lyra, Corinne, Camille, Camilla, and Ariadne as first names.

I like Astrid a lot, it is beautiful, but also like it because I think it is both English and Spanish friendly. That has been a big problem in the choosing of a name!!!
