Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard have welcomed their second daughter: Gloria Ray. Their first daughter is named Ramona.

I love Ramona, and I was actually just thinking to myself the other day about whether I liked the name Gloria or not. It does feel old, but gotta love the meaning.

Also interesting: Gloria peaked in the 1940s, and Ramona in the 1930s. So, classic, or just old-lady?

WDYT?

I love the name Ramona because Ramona Quimby is one of my all-time favorite heroines. I have an Aunt Gloria (b. 1953) and I've always liked her name a lot.

I'd say they seem "old lady" right now, but if more and more people start using them, that stigma might wear off. They seem like two names that go through cycles.

I've just started reading the Ramona books to my daughter. I loved Ramona when I was a kid!

I always had to skip the part where the cat died... I cried for days.

Ramona was one of my front runners for my currently incubating girl but got shot down by the husband...

Not really a fan of Gloria but Ramona is my top girls name right now :)

I actually like both. Ramona is adorable and as a sibset, Gloria is great.

Gloria makes me think of White Men Can't Jump.

I like that they potentially named her after a famous feminist, Gloria Steinem, but rather dislike the name itself. Also, I know at least one parent is Jewish, so I was wondering if she went for Gloria as a nod to Golda, as in Golda Meir, but if that is the case, I like Golda or Goldie better than Gloria.
Ray as a middle is interesting, if not my style. Is Ramona's middle name known? How does it compare to Ray?

It would be hard for me not to consider Ramona as a girl's name, because of my fierce love for Miss Quimby. I like Gloria, to be honest. I think a lot of "old person" names are making a comeback thanks to quaint hipster aesthetics, but I personally love them and can't get enough of babies that sound like they should be 87.

Ramona has grown on me, but I'm not a fan of Gloria.
Neither sounds "old lady" to me.

I like Ramona. Gloria is alright, just not really my style.

A (german) friend of mine has a sister named Ramona. I quite like it. Gloria sounds old lady to me, but not so much that it's a bad name.

I have pretty much opposite reactions than everyone else, lol. I prefer Glory to Gloria and I don't really like Ramona at all. Neither sounds "old lady" to me though.

I LOVE it. I love the sib-set. My SIL said (before she got pregnant) that she wanted to use Gloria after her grandmother. I thought it was a great name.

When she got pregnant they picked Marley--which I hate. But they did use Rae as a middle name, so she could have been Gloria Rae, which made me laugh when I heard this one.

I really love both. Especially Gloria, because I'm a bit biased on that one, as it's my Aunt's name too.

Rather than Gloria, I like Glory -- grew on me reading Marilynne Robinson's "Gilead" and "Home." Would consider it ourselves only it sounds a little silly with our G last name.

I think they're classic, but I love old lady names for baby girls, so either works for me. Both are adorable. I have a friend with a 7 year old named Gloria and it suits her well.

I really liked Gloria when I was in my early teens. I never thought of it as an old lady name until people started telling me it was! I still like it.
