My partner and I are having a spelling debate on a name for our soon-to-be-born baby.

Clio, or Cleo? It would be pronounced KLEE-oh.

Argument for Clio: more traditional spelling
Argument for Cleo: more common US spelling

For what it's worth, initials would be CMP and the last name is eastern European. We both have pretty well-mixed heritages.

ETA: We live in the US

Personally, I prefer Clio, since that's the spelling that refers to the Greek muse of history... but then, I'm a history geek... :-)

Cleo.

A Clio is an award given out by the advertising industry.

Another reason I vote for Cleo is that it's, by far, the more conventional spelling, and 99% of the time, I think that makes for the better choice.

I prefer Cleo but I think that's because it's what I'm used to. Clio just looks odd to me.

I very much prefer Cleo but as others have said that may just be because I'm more used to it here in the U.S.

Since you're in the US, I'd use Cleo. Like others have said--Clio could be pronounced CLEYE-oh not KLEE-oh.

I too am in the US and I'm used to Cleo. Clio does look a bit off to me, BUT on the other hand I wouldn't have a problem with pronouncing it at all. It's pretty phonetic. So I think in your case it's whatever YOU prefer.

Okay, I just saw the debate for Cly-oh. I wouldn't make this error personally, but the others are right in saying that some might. I still don't think it's a big deal, and that corrected once it would be fine.

And by the way....I almost forgot to congratulate you on your upcoming baby girl!!! :) Yay mama!! <3

I like Cleo better than Clio.

I'd say Cleo, mainly because I think of it as a nickname for Cleopatra before I think of the muse, so the "e" looks "right" to me.

Much prefer Cleo. How about Clea? That's what I named my older daughter.:)

I have to agree with the majority and say Cleo. But in the end, it's YOUR decision. For what it's worth, I don't think pronunciation will be that much of an issue. I just personally prefer the look of Cleo, is all.

Cleo! Clio will always make me think of the car.

Cleo.

I wouldn't have any problem pronouncing Clio properly, but I do think it looks odd. It looks like a company name or something, haha.
