What would your parents have named you if you'd been born the opposite sex? How do you feel about that name? Does it work in a sib-set with your actual name/your siblings' names?

If you have children, what would they have been if they'd been the opposite sex? Did you have names for both sexes ready when your children were born? Why or why not?

I would have been named Mark, which is my husband's name. My parents are still, 42 years later, arguing about what my middle name would have been. They both wanted it to be their father's name.

If I'd have been a boy, I'd have been Jake Patrick Kenneth. Jake because they liked it, Patrick because of my birthday/the fact my father is Irish and Kenneth for my grandfather. I actually really like it, much more than my name (Emily Louise). It's got a lot more meaning and more room to work with. I think Emily & Jake work quite well as a sib-set, but I don't have any siblings so.

I would have been Grant Robert (my biological father's name). My brothers are Herbert Jeremiah (HIS father & grandfather's first names are both Herbert; all three of them go by their middle names; goes by Jeremiah or Jerry) and Matthew Jeffrey.

I don't feel it fits the sibset, because both of my brothers' names are Biblical, Grant seems pretty random.

My sisters are Alyssa Catherine & Lauren Elizabeth. If they were boys, they would have been Aaron Joseph & Adam Something...I can't remember. Haha.

My daughter is Sophia Grace. If she had been a boy, we had decided on Christian last minute, only because I had a dream she came out a boy. Prior to that, though, we didn't have a boy name picked out because we didn't start discussing names seriously until we knew we were having a girl. However, I have always LOVED Harrison (icon choice not an accident), but Husband despises it.

My cousin Thessaly Rienne would have been Harrison Mark if she had been a boy. I'm glad because Thessy's brother is called Theodore Randell and I like the TRR initials.

Had I been a boy, I would have been Christian, which my parents then used on my younger brother since it was the only boys' name they could agree on. I don't know what they would've done if my sister ended up a boy. As a sib-set, we're Catherine, Christian and Olivia.

My parents thought I was a boy the whole time so they had Bryan Anthony picked out and when I came out a girl they quickly came up with Tiffany Annette. I like both names. I'm not sure if it would go with my siblings. Their names are:
Joseph Harold
Ashley Diane
Christina Nicole

My name is Emily Valecia, but if I were a boy I would have been Seth Brian. I like Seth, but I don't really like the first and middle combo. My siblings are Taylor Michele and Zachary Brian, and I think Seth fits fine with them as a sibset, maybe even better than Emily does, haha. If my sister had been a boy she would have been Benjamin, and Zach was almost Benjamin as well before my parents changed their minds.

If I had been a boy, my name would have been the one my father picked out: Braddick/Braddeck (they can't seem to remember the actual spelling) Seamus O. The O would have been to represent the O my father's family dropped from their last name when they moved to North America. Seamus is the Gaelic version of James, which was my grandfather's name.

I personally think it's freaking awesome and I totally hate that I wasn't a boy, lol. I would've rocked that name. I like Seamus better than Braddick/Braddeck, so the only thing would be that I'd change, I'd want Seamus to be first. I like it because it shows that my father put a lot of thought into the name he wanted me to have, so it would have been really special.

Instead, I was a girl, and they used the name my mom picked out.

I've asked my parents this question so many times. My dad always tells me "ask your mother, I don't remember" and she always say I would be named David after David Attenburough who used to be my mother's big hero or something. I dunno. As for middle name, she has never told me anything. I don't even know if they had talked names much before I was born, except that the name I did get, Mette Beate, was settled a while before I was born because I was named after two people.

If I was a David, I don't think it would have fit into the sibset that well but then again, I don't think mine really does either...
And as for the name itself, I like it and have considered using it for any possible children I might get.

I would have been Nicholas John if I'd been a boy (my dad is John.) Instead I am Katherine (Kate) Jill, and my sisters are Jill Elise and Grace Claire. I think Nicholas John would have gone fine with all of the names.

My girls are Emilie Claire (would have been Adam Paul), Hannah Paige (would have been Aiden...bleh!), and Leah Dean (would have been John Grant or Grant Thomas). We found out the sex of all of our children via u/s at around 20 weeks. We tossed around names before the ultrasound for boys and girls, but didn't make a final final decision until we knew the sex. Those were just the front runners.

As I was adopted at a year old, I don't know what my birth parents would have named me had I been a boy, though I do know they actually named me Elaine. My parents renamed me Renee when they got me. If I'd been a boy, *they* probably would have named me after my grandfathers, Philip Taylor and Joseph Gordon. My siblings (from my dad's first marriage) are Carol, Peter, Nancy, Janet and Frances. I think Elaine goes better with the set than Renee, but as I was raised as an only child (youngest sister is 18 years older), it didn't really matter.

If I had been a boy, I would have been Alistair Robert. My older brother is Patrick Charles, and he would have been Rachael Elizabeth if he had been a girl. (my name is not Rachael so my parents obvs fell out of love with that name). I think Patrick & Alistair work as a sib-set, and I like Alistair a lot more than my actual name of Samantha! Plus when we were kids Postman Pat & Fireman Sam were on TV, so our actual sib-set names have always seemed a bit silly.

I was an emergency C-section at about 28 weeks, so Mum and Dad really didn't have *any* names picked, for either gender.

I imagine if I'd been a boy, they might have used any combination of family names:
- William or George, after great-grandfathers
- Dalton, after Mum's favourite uncle
- Henry or Kendall after my grandfathers
- David, after a cousin who was killed that year
- If they'd had a sense of humour about it, possibly John or Paul as a nod to an old family joke: My grandfather swore up and down that my Mum's youngest sister was going to be a boy (he had one son and two daughters) and even had a name picked out. Well, "Paul" had to become "Paula". Granddad called her "John" or "John Paul" all her life.

My Uncle Harold swore my mom, his baby sister, was going to be the little brother he always wanted. He called her Pete, claiming it was for the "peter-patter of her little feet on the floor." My aunt tells everyone he actually started calling mom that the day she was born.

I, of course, grew up with Uncle Harold calling me Repete.

I'm Laura Caitlin, and if I had been a boy, I would have been either Oliver, called Ollie, which I love, especially since it was way less common in 1982, or Scott, which I don't like as much.

My brother, who came along five years after me, is named Paul. My parents would have named him Scott, but my cousin was born in between my brother and me, and he got the name Scott. I guess Oliver was out of the running by then. If Paul had been a girl, he would have been Elise, which I like. It was influenced by the character in "Family Ties."

All in all, I think Laura and Paul and Oliver and Elise and all permutations thereof are pretty good sibsets.

I would have been Peter and my sister would have most likely been Elliot. I think Peter works well with Anna [my sister] and Elliot would work well with Louisa [My name] The two boys names wouldn't be too bad together actually.

My little cousin was going to be Drew/Andrew if she was a boy. Not a huge fan of the name Andrew, but I think thats because I know a lot of them. Weirdly my aunt and uncle were thinking of names separately for my newest cousin who is almost 5 months old. My uncle really liked the name Olly [which he was then called] and my aunt liked Molly for a girl! When they told each other they were all OMG NO WAI XD

I'm Sarah Virginia and if I had been a boy I would have been Brian Bernard. My brother born 2 years later was given that name. My dad got to chose the name Sarah, but my mom really liked Emily and Anne. I'm happy with the name I got :)

My oldest is Kayden Alexis (m) but he was almost River (I was young!) or if he had been a girl, my ex and I decided on Aria Giovanni (which I found out years later is a porn star name..yikes)
My second son is Dylan Matthew and he would have been Lucy or Ella with middle name Susanna if he had been a girl.

What's really weird is that my parents thought both my sister and I would be boys, so they settled on girls' names much easier. For me, my mom was just walking through the living room (where my dad was) to the kitchen, and my dad goes "How about Melissa?" and my mom was like "Okay." They never actually decided on a boy name.

My sister (Emily) was a huge baby (9 lbs, 15 oz) so they thought she would definitely be a boy. They were going to call her Samuel.

I don't have kids yet, but my boyfriend and I both want 3, so we have a top 3 boys' and girls' names picked out. The first girl will be Chloe almost definitely, and the first boy will probably be Brendan.

I'm Briannon Elaine. Had I been a boy, I would have either been Matthew or Brandon. Neither of which I particularly like-- even tough Brandon is kind of close to Briannon.

My Daughter Lilliana Elizabeth would have been Kennedy William had she been a boy. I'm glad she ended up being a girl because I don't think I like Kennedy after all.

Now pregnant with #2, if it's a girl she would be either Margot Evelyn, or maybe Evelyn Margot. But we do still have a list of other names that we're considering.
If it's a boy, we're leaning toward Jude Ellery, though this is still up in the air too. We still have a couple months :)

I would have been Nathan. I can't stand the name. I think it would have gone well enough with my siblings Amber Dawn and Benjamin Michael. Instead I am Kailee Jae. I hated my name growing up, then started liking it at about 18...now at 29, I have been thinking of changing it. It's too childish. I really wish my parents would have just put an "n" in my middle name to begin with because everyone and their dog has been telling me for years that I "Forgot the 'n'."

I don't know what my sister would have been if she were a boy, but my brother would have been Summer.

My kids would have been: Emi Adaire, Adrian ?, Eden Kae/Kay and Lars Oliver Einar. But instead I have: Lukas John, Dylan Adaire (female), Ezra Scott and Norah Catherine.

I would have been Timothy. I think I would have preferred a single first name to a double name like Mary Grace (I wouldn't have to correct people). I guess it fits with Peter and Josephine (nn JoJo).

If my brother had been a girl, he would have been Emma (in 1992, before its huge surge in popularity), and if my sister had been a boy, she would have been Frank. I don't know if Tim, Emma, and Frank works as a sibset. I feel like Frank throws things off.

Had I been a boy, I would've been Luke. My sister also would've been Luke, had she been a boy (I guess my mom and dad couldn't settle on much, as far as boy names were concerned.) Not sure what the middle name would've been, but since I share my mom's middle name and my sister has the female version of my father's name as a middle name, it might have been Ellis or Dean.

My younger brother would've been Sabine, had he been a girl.

I would have been Sean Christopher if I'd been a boy. My mom is OBSESSED with Sean Connery, lol. My name is Ashlie and I think it would go well enough as a sibset. I'm an only child, so I have no other names to compare it to.

My oldest was going to be Jackson if she'd been a boy (her name is Delanie). Now I'm glad that it worked out the way it did because Jackson has become so incredibly popular. With my second, we didn't choose a name until we knew that she was a girl, so we didn't have a boys' name picked out. I am currently pregnant with my third (a boy) and he still doesn't have a set-in-stone name. Middle names are taken care of, but his first name is still a debate.

Love this post. My parents would have named me Jeremy. Which, incidentally, was the name of my brother. Next kiddo born to them. I don't hate it. They named my other brother Jonathan, which is way more common. And that would be too weird, considering I ended up with a Jonathan. Haha. So having matching names would have been weird. And oddly, if my spouse had been a girl, he'd be Samantha, which is my middle name. LOL!

If my son had been a girl, he'd have been Lola Elanna.
If my daughter had been a boy (second to our actual son already) she'd have been Xavier Augustus.

We had names for both sexes- but found out the sexes of both of our kids before they were born...with the 1st- at 20 weeks- we knew we were having a girl..but were fighting over a possible boys name- so,it turned out for the best and
we found out much later with my 2nd(our son)- I think it was close to 30 weeks..his name is Benjamin...but pretty sure he would've been Alexa (I liked it, my husband wasn't crazy about it- but I kind of had gotten him to just go with it)
