[identity profile] sayga.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Looking through the database at work, I’ve found some different names. Some of them I actually quite like, and some are really weird.

All these are female names:
Yania
Khalida
Jesusita
Candida
Edythe (as if Edith wasn’t bad enough)
Nealann
Evelona
Narricky
Saba
Denali
Lorice
Alden
Yanira
Madelon
Sadia
Cherry
Eltorna
Sidonia
Esthela
Fabiola
Dacia
Mayola
Domitila
Letha
Anayansi

Not sure if these are male or female (I would guess they’re all female):
Signe
Soni
Maday
Sugey
Araceli
Francyn

And a few male names:
Thoric
Garvan
Lino
Leland

You'd be forever grateful to your parents if you were named Candida (http://www.stdservices.on.net/std/candidiasis/)...

My childhood friend was named Madelon. :)

I had a TA in University named Candida.
Unfortunately it is also a kind of yeast that causes fungal infections (like thrush).

Leland and Sidonia are real names. I don't like Leland, though. Sidonia is one of my relatives' names and I rather like it.

Dacia is a former region in Romania... and an old Communist Romanian car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacia_%28car%29)!

Weird. o.O

Yeah a lot of them are fucking ugly.

I'm really loving Dacia, though. The Dacia car is a huge joke in Romania because of what awful cars they are, and I think it's great that someone actually named their kid that, even if it was originally just some part of the Roman empire in Romania.

Signe is a fairly traditional Scandinavian name (Norwegian, Danish etc) - pronounced Sig-nay. I think it would be great in Scandinavia... not so much elsewhere :/

MADELON! if that's supposed to be a creative spelling of Madeleine that's the most ridiculous think I've ever heard!!

Aw, I like Edith! I have a set of antique books about a doll with that name, and I always thought it was cute. But, I agree that the names listed are all pretty bad.
