[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] silentyrs's recent post...

If you absolutely had to choose between one of these names, which would you choose, and why?

Madison or Mackenzie ?

MacKenzie.

I prefer it because I like hard 'k' sounds in names.

Yeah.

I would choose Madison because it seems more classy than Mackenzie. It's mostly based on impressions of people I've met with the names.

Madison. Because it is harder to mutiliate it with kre8iv spellings.

Madison because it makes me want to retch less and also you can just call her Maddy.

Your reasoning is what I picked too.

Maddy or "sunny"...like someone else said.

Sunny is cute, though I admit it's not what I think at first when I see Madison.

madison.

mackenzie reminds me of
a) 7th heaven and
b) my friend's dalmatian.

forgive my ditz moment...but who on 7th Heaven is named mackenzie?

the youngest daughter.

OHH I was thinking character names...and there is no character named Mackenzie! :) Got it now

the actress's name is mackenzie.
the girl is ruthie.
my mistake.

:) I just figured that out in your last comment. I reply through my e-mails rather than the site, and I start at the bottom and go up so I saw and responded to your other one first.

I just couldn't bring myself to use MacKenzie. Seems a hideously pretentious wannabe-yuppy sort of name. No way would I give my daughter a name meaning 'son of'; my Scottish blood boils at such bastardising.

So Madison then by default is generally more appealing [my mother is a fan of it, for some reason]. Though I'd insist she be called Sunny for short.

Madison! In a heartbeat. Mackenzie is overrated

Mackenzie because I love that name anyway.

Madison. because then I could just call her "maddy" and hope people think her name is madeline. and if people asked, I would lie and say it was. ;)

Madison. I hate both names, but I kind of like the nickname Maddie, so I could deal with it.

Mackenzie, but only because it is less popular. It doesn't make me barf any less.

Madison. I abhor the name Mackenzie. And it would be wierd, because the next town over from me, is called Mackenzie. Even spelled the same way....

madison but only because i love the nn maddy.

haha... that combo is awful by today's standards, isn't it??

From: [identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com
Mackenzie because my association with the name is the beautiful Mackenzie River!

HOWEVER, I really like Madison. I just can't stand names that are super popular, which is why I don't consider it anymore.

I would be forced to pick Madison, or else deal with the rath of my SIL who already named a daughter Mackenzie. I would still choose Madison, and call her maddy.

From: [identity profile] sayga.livejournal.com
if i HAD to pick, i'd pick madison, and pretend that the former president James Madison (http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/jm4.html)inspired me greatly.

I really don't like either, but if I had to choose, Mackenzie. Because I could come up with some sweet nicknames.

Mackenzie is so so so ugly. 'Muck/yuck' i just absolutely detest it! It's

I actually quite like Madison, if it wasnt so trendy i'd like it a whole lot more.

I may hate this name with all of my might but Mackenzie...it's just to ugly, and weird.

Mackenzie anyday, Madison is so over rated! Cant stand it. I love the name Mackenzie tho, we have a girl at playgroup called Mackenna! I have grown to like that as well for something different.

MacKenzie is a boy's name as it means "Son of Kenneth"
Madison is also boyish.. "Son of Matthew" (http://www.babynames.com/Names/Alpha/?let=M)

I think I'd choose infertility. :/

Madison, I guess. I just can't get over the Mac- prefix... though the -son suffix is just as bad in the end.
