I hate baby naming right now.
Aug. 16th, 2006 12:20 pmOr more correctly, I hate all the names I've ever come up with at this point. At least in combination with my last name and my current kids' names anyway.
Does anyone have the Baby Name Wizard book? If so could you post about Amelia (especially the sibling part)? I'd really appreciate it.
any other sibling names (particularly girls) that 'go' with Amelia in your opinion?
thanks for listening to my frustrations. :/

Date: 2006-08-16 04:44 pm (UTC)I don't have the book, sorry. The only idea I have is to use the Social Security name website to see what other names were popular at the turn of the last century, when Amelia was also popular. http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/
One of my favorites that is off our list is Lydia. That seems to go well without being "matchy." I also like Clara and Beatrice.

Amelia & Aarabella
Amelia & Eliana
Amelia & Felicity
Amelia & Jasmine
Amelia & Johanna/Joanna
Amelia & Juliana
Amelia & Liliana
Amelia & Madeleine
Amelia & Natasha
Amelia & Natalia

Date: 2006-08-16 05:14 pm (UTC)do you think Natalia sounds 'wrong' with an Irish sounding last name? (not o'anything or mc anything, but it definitely doesn't sound Italian or Portuguese or well, anything else really lol)

Date: 2006-08-16 05:24 pm (UTC)Style: Antique Charm, English, Shakespearean
Nicknames: Amy, Mia, Mel, Lia, Millie
Variants: Amelie, Amalia Emilia
Sisters: Cecilia, Sophie, Annabel, Miriam, Lydia
Brothers: Simon, Max, Edgar, Owen, Pierce
*Amelia was a shrinking violet for years, but now she's ready for her closeup,. Parents are attracted to this gentle charmer as a twist on Emily or kindred spirit to Olivia. The up-and-coming nickname choice is Mia, as in the heroine of Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries books."

Date: 2006-08-16 06:29 pm (UTC)MIRANDA
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English
Pronounced: mur-AN-da
Derived from Latin mirandus meaning "admirable, wonderful". The name was created by Shakespeare for the heroine in his play 'The Tempest'.
If I were you, I'd add it to your list. =)

Date: 2006-08-17 12:55 pm (UTC)lol you're too funny. yeah, I kind of do like it. I knew a girl whose sister was Miranda. I think that and the potentially nn's that I DON'T care for are what's holding me back. I think I will have to put it on the New List I've got going on. :D

Date: 2006-08-17 01:23 pm (UTC)I knew a little girl named Miranda, and they called her Panda as a NN. I always thought it was really cute!
And BTW, I totally know how you feel about the name association... but the second she's born and in your arms and if you call her Miranda, you won't have even a second thought about anyone else you know with that name. It'll be all about your Miranda.
Geeze, between typing that paragraph and watching the baby just being born on A Baby Story behind me, I'm all sad and jealous. Heh. =P

Date: 2006-08-17 01:08 pm (UTC)I seriously think I might have named my first dd Eliza if it weren't for all the "controversy". My friend does have one other name she likes and so far she only has a boy and the chances of her acutally having girl twins (which is when she'd want to use the name Eliza) are pretty slim... but then I feel guilty since I'd consider so many other names and she only likes TWO. like it would be selfish to have to pick that one. I think I think about this stuff too much lol.

Date: 2006-08-17 01:19 pm (UTC)Elizabeth is my MIL (I would not really jump on the naming after her idea and neither would my DH). Katherine is my best friend (we see her enough that it would be too confusing) and Kayla is my step son's sister by his mother. I thought it was kind of a weird coincidence that you picked out those names. :)
our last name begins with a B. do you think Bridget B is 'too much'?
