Apparently it's the shortened version of Thomasina/-e. Huh.

I don't think I'm a fan.

I prefer it spelled Tamsen but either one is nice.

I like it but wouldn't use it because I don't like the nickname Tammy, and I know people would call her that.

I like it but I doubt I would use it.

However obscure, it makes me think of Coupling. I don't think I'm a fan of that name.

it might be obscure to some, but that's usually the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the name as well.

NP. I love that show. Less so after the Jeff character was gone though :(

Not a fan, it's just very weird looking and sounding to me.

I quite like Tamsin, and I'm a fan of the nickname Tammy, the only thing is that I knew three Tamsins at school and the teachers tended to misread it as "Tasman", which was annoying for them.

Hahaha. I just looked at your profile, thinking you HAD to be from Australia with that comment. New Zealand. Near enough! I think this is the only place in the world where there are wall to wall Tamsins!

Fellow Kiwi! I also read it as Tasman and have known quite a few Tamsins here.

Tamsin's not that unusual in my part of the world. I've also seen it spelled Tamasin.

Also a similar name is Tasma.

Sounds like a drug name to me. It reminds me of tamsulosin, a prostate drug. But I suppose most people would not have that association :)

I instantly thought of that medication, too.

I quite like it, but I always felt conflicted because I know it is a nn. It is one that stands well enough on its own, but I have this thing about not using nns as full names. I used to hate Thomasina, but it has actually grown on me lately and I find I like it. I probably wouldn't use it unless I married a Thomas or someone who wanted to honor a family member named Thomas, but who knows? I could warm up to it even more.

I really like the name Tamsin. Not a fan of Tammy and I would insist on her being called Tamsin. I heard it on Summer Heights High and fell in love with it. Also makes me think of the name Tannis, though I'm not sure why.

I quite like it, and it is on our list! Like other posters, I would worry about the n/n Tammy (ew) but I think if we made our feelings known about that nickname early on, most people wouldn't use it. I wouldn't mind the nickname "Tam" though.

For the record, I live in the U.S. and I love the actress Tamsin Grieg, which is where I first heard that name.
