So Ottilie as a middle name....too weird?  Found out we are having a girl, third and last kid.  my other two kids (boys) both accidentally have "O" middle names so we thought we would continue it with the last kid.  But "O" names are few and far between.  We both love Olive but my middle kid's middle name (whew, that was a mouthful) is Oliver.  My nieces' name is Olivia.  So that would be too much. If this third kid had been a boy his name would have been Otto.  We just discovered Ottilie last night on nameberry.com.

so Matilda Ottilie B_____.   Too weird?  I mean it IS just a middle name.

She will join big brothers Oscar Owen (my maiden name) B_______ and Harvey Oliver B_______.

I actually think that's quite cute! I think it would flow nicely with a last name that was 1 or 2 syllables long, but would probably be a bit much with anything longer than that given that the first and middle names both have 3 syllables.

Also, I really love the names you gave your two boys as well. I think Matilda Ottilie will fit in nicely with Oscar Owen and Harvey Oliver as a sibset!

I agree. I think it's terribly cute! Good pick! :)

What about Odette?

I like it, but what about Orla?

Orla would go nicely with the sibset, since it seems like the OP prefers Irish names.

I have a little boy named Finnian, and am a week overdue with what will probably be an Orla (unless she looks completely different!)

Orna is another option.

I'm not sure... I've nevber heard of it before.

I think you have other O options: What about Opal? Onie? Oakley? October, even.

I think it's adorable. What about Ophelie/Ophelia?

Yeah, you don't want to name after a mean cat.;) What about Olida? It's a French name that I've heard recently.

I know you've received lots of suggestions, and I really like Ottilie, but I couldn't help but throw in another suggestion: Odessa. I'm not usually a fan of "place" names but I just love that one!

Hm. I've never heard Ottilie before. I'm neutral on it, honestly. Wouldn't use it, but don't dislike it or see how it might cause your kid problems. How about Olympe?

I love it. They both mean something akin to "battle maiden" don't they?

I hadn't heard of the name of Ottilie until recently, so it's a bit odd to me, but it's cute. Other "O" possibilities:

Oceane (sometimes with an accent on the first "e"; popular in France and Belgium)
Ophelia
Olympia
Olga
Odette/Odetta
Octavia
Oksana
Oriana (Latin, meaning "dawn, sunrise"; also Irish, meaning "golden")
Oriel (Latin, meaning "fire"; also French, meaning "golden; angel of destiny")

I've never heard of Ottilie either, but to me I guess it seems a bit redundant -- I think it's the "til" in both of the names.

Other O names that come to mind:

Odessa
Oriana
Olesia
Orlena
Octavia
Oakley
Olearia
Oleta

I love Ottilie (prefer Othilie spelling-wise though) and although I am totally for it being used since it's not something you hear every day, I don't really like it paired with Matilda. I just think they sound a bit too similar to each other.

I know that Missouri* accents don't have the same difficulties with Ts as Colorado accents, but I just want to throw it out there that in Colorado (and probably a few of the areas around Colorado) that would be pronounced Maddie Hattie ('Haddie,' really, but everyone would understand it as Hattie in a way that they wouldn't understand Maddie as Mattie.). You'd be setting your kid up for a lot of bad Mad Hatter jokes if you or she ever moved.

*I'm a creeper okay.

I think Odette is nice.

Other possible are Orla, Oleander (since you like Olive), OIinda, Ora, or Ozara.

I don't care for the "til" in Matilda and Ottilie, it makes them a little matchy for my taste.

I saw a movie a little while ago called "Ondine". Pronounced like On-deen.
