Victor of Viktor?
Jan. 29th, 2012 11:24 amBefore you answer, note that the older siblings all have Germanic names. Should the parents keep with the Germanic style of the older siblings' names, or go with the most common spelling in the area they live in?

Date: 2012-01-29 09:42 pm (UTC)It might be something to just leave open until the baby comes- is he a Victor or a Viktor? If the family has a strong German ancestry I'd say go with it with the "those that mind- don't matter and those that matter don't mind" attitude. A simple "My family's German" is really all he'll need to shut people down in the future if necessary.
Since I live in Mexico- I have considered alternative spellings so that people here will pronounce the name right. In fact, the only thing I wish I could change about my son's name would be the spelling. He's Dominic. But the rules in Spanish make people pronounce his name "Dominique" which drives me crazy. One day I saw a Latin singer with the name "Domenic" and I wish I had known about that before. Though then I would probably get grief from English speakers about the crazy spelling too!
