Is this name inextricably linked with the late Princess such that it would be weird or inappropriate on a kid?

I am comfortable and in fact welcome associations with the Roman goddess.

Child will be raised in the US.

I think it is a beautiful choice that is underused. Go for it!

I think it's a beautiful classic name.

Definitely not. It's a pretty classic name, and even if it was only associated with Princess Diana, that's a great namesake to have!

I like it spelled Diana or Dianna.

Honestly I think of the Goddess before I do the princess. I don't think you have much to worry about. It's a beautiful name.

I wouldn't worry. I like Diana a lot and wouldn't associate it with the Princess.

I really like the name, it's a strong but feminine name and one you don't hear every day. I associate it with Anne's best childhood friend from Anne of Green Gables, by the way. (A very good association!!) I say, go for it.

Diana Barry (and Di Blythe) are always my first thoughts when hearing the name.

Aside from Princess Diana, I only know one other Diana, and she is incredibly sweet, polite, kind, gentle... And then there's Anne of Green Gables bff, and Diana Rigg (lovely voice, great actress), Diana Ross, Diana Krall... Plus it means heavenly/divine. I like it a lot :)

I love it! Yes, there will always be associations with Princess Diana, but it's definitely not the kind of association that it would be hard to look past.

It's a gorgeous name---one of my favorites. There might still be connections to Princess Di, but they shouldn't be too strong. There's another Princess Diana you could associate it with, too: Wonder Woman.

I don't think so. I know a few Diana's my age (late teens/early twenties) and I've never thought of the princess because of their names. A child that's born within the next few years will be growing up so long after her death that most of the people the child will be growing up/spending her adult life with will probably never think of it.

I'm English, 22, and Diana's death is one of the first world events that I have a clear memory of.
I still think of the goddess first, and it's a great name.

I love that name. I'm planning on using Katharine Diana for my first daughter and often wonder if people will think I'm obsessed with the royal family. I'm not it's just a coincidence. I say go for it. Besides, Princess Diana was an amazing woman. Even if people do think of her, it's not horrible. If she was an infamous murderer, I might rethink the name... :]

I just think it's more of an old person's name. It's not very young or fresh, would be my only problem.

I really like it. It's my aunt's name so I associate it with her more than Princess Di. My mother's name is Helen so my grandparents had a kind of classical theme going :)

I also think of Wonder Woman which is another plus point IMO!

I had a friend named Diana in elementary/middle school. Princess Di died in 1997, I was mainly friends with this girl in 1999-2002. I never though of calling her Princess or anything.

Even in the UK, the name Diana isn't automatically associated with the Princess (and even if it was the first thought for some, it's not the only thought), so I don't think you'd need to worry.

I have a cousin (now in high school) named Dianna. I don't think anyone in our family associates the name with Princess Diana.

I think of Dianna Agron, and she's, idk, 25?

Personally, being born in 89 and growing up in France, I hardly know a thing about Princess Diana, so I really don't think any generation younger than mine is gonna particularly take notice.

I know I'm late with this, but Diana is such a classic name that I really don't think it can be associated only with one person. There are just too many Dianas throughout history and literature to think that only one person will carry the association. It's a gorgeous name and underused lately, so you won't have to worry about her being one of 5 little Dianas in her class!
