[identity profile] ladydreamfire.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Alright, this is the last name I need help on my names I think. I had my top favorites for a boy name (Rafe Hollis) and girl name (Gemma Hermione) but I always compile a list of 3 name choices for each gender just in case. And it has been a lifesaver for me in the past.

I'm almost done, I just need a quick pick between two kinda similar names. Which do you prefer?

Isla Fleur Gibbons (pronounced Eye-la in case you were wondering, I had to ask myself!)

OR

Elsa Fleur Gibbons (pronounced ELL-sah)

As always, thank you so much!! This community is awesome <3

ETA: Thanks for your input, I'm going with Elsa Fleur Gibbons. Isla will get mixed up pretty bad for most folks, and that's a huge turn-off for me.

Isla. I just far prefer the way it flows and sounds.

I'd go with Elsa, personally. "Isla" would grow up constantly correcting people that her name isn't "is-lah".

Since Isla is the Spanish word for "Island" and is pronounced "EES-lah" you'll have to be correcting people all the time for pronouncing Isla properly and not the way you want them to.

Elsa. Isla might end up with pronunciation/spelling issues with her constantly having to correct people; Elsa is pretty phonetic. Plus, it's prettier.

Isla & Elsa to me are close if it was prounounced Is-La & El-Sa..
Though I like the sound of Ey-La better..
So I would pick the first...

I like Isla much better than Elsa.

Isla, hands down

Though if you're naming a character and not a new daughter, I could certainly see Else being a more fitting name to some personality types. Overall though I prefer Isla (and I prefer it spelled that way as opposed to Ayla, which I think should rhyme with Kayla)

Elsa is prettier, but I think Isla Fleur flows better.

Elsa reminds me of a cow from a cartoon from my childhood, unfortunately can't remember the name of the cartoon itself. Isla is far prettier anyway.

No the cow was more similar to Elsa than Bessie

Wasn't it Elsie? lol. I agree, the 2 have very different connotations.

Isla. It just sounds better with the middle name.

I prefer Isla Fleur. It has a nicer flow to it imo :) The other names are really sweet too :D

Definitely Isla. Elsa sounds like a cow name to me.

I prefer Isla, but don't like the spelling. I agree with the person who suggested Ayla. Also, I had a student (middle school) a few years ago who spelled it Ajla. I liked that.

I don't care for the Ayla variation either. I personally like the Isla spelling and really don't understand how it could be pronounced any other way, but it could also be spelled Ila. I have a relative named Ila, and the pronunciation is never messed up. Just a thought.

Elsa. 'Isla' is Spanish for 'island'. I am aware that the pronunciation is different, but you do run the risk of people getting confused. :) Plus, Elsie is just an adorable nickname! <3

Personally, I much prefer Isla. But Elsa is nice, and easier for most people to say.
