[identity profile] lorienellen.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My husband and I have finally agreed on a few names for our daughter and Lia is currently the front runner. The only problem I can see is that my mother-in-law is named Lisa and they would both have the same last name. So would you want to have Lia and Lisa that closely related? We see them maybe once every 2-3 months. We wouldn't be naming the baby after her but it sure seems that way, and I don't like the spelling Leah because of pronunciation concerns. (With a weird name like mine I want to make it as easy as possible for my kids!)

[Poll #1810707]

We would most likely use Charlotte as a middle name. Lia Charlotte.

Here are a few other first names we're considering if you have suggestions along the same lines:
- Amelia
- Anna
- Charlotte - as a first name
- Clara
- Cora, Coralie
- Juliette
- Lucy
- middle name Kathleen after one of my aunts

If you use the name Amelia, you could use Lia as a nick name.

Ophelia is another one that could have Lia as a nickname!

I've LOVED Ophelia since Pan's Labyrinth. Great suggestion!

I don't think it matters too much but a great solution would be to name her Amelia and call her Lia for short

I really like Lia Charlotte. I think an A middle name would sort of smoosh together. Lia Juliette is also nice, and Lia Kathleen (it's NMS but I think Lia would need a longer name to balance it, otherwise you just have short syllables...)
My cousin is Amelia Katherine, and we call her Melly or Lili. Her grandmother calls her Amy. I think that all your middle names would work with Amelia too if you went that route (or Cordelia, Celia/Cecilia) but my faves are def Charlotte and Juliette :)

Ah yes, I should learn to read! Charlotte is 100% my favourite, and it goes with so many names. Charlotte Louisa is really really sweet. Charlotte Kathleen could work but maybe it's a bit long...

If your husband doesn't like Amelia, could you possibly change the spelling to Leah or Lea if you're worried it's too close Lisa?

I really like the sound of Lia Charlotte, but since you asked for alternate suggestions:

Lucy Charlotte
Lucy Kathleen
Clara Kathleen
Anna Juliette
Amelia Charlotte
Clara Lucy
Cora Juliette
Clara Juliette
Anna Kathleen
Amelia Kathleen

I think Lia and Lisa are just a little bit too close. Have you considered an alternative spelling? I went to school with a girl called Leigha and a girl I know from high school who called her little girl this. I just love the name Lia Charlotte! It rolls so well together, you can use it both affectionately and when she gets in trouble without any trouble ;) Leigha Charlotte would work just as well, IMO.

What problems would people have in pronouncing Leah?

I did not even know that there was another way to pronounce Leah.I have only ever heard it as Lee-a

"Lia" looks incomplete to me. I just can't look at it.

I do like some of your other options though, a lot. Amelia, Lucy, Charlotte in particular. We were going to name our daughter Lucy Charlotte but ended up with a Lucy Emilia instead, so I guess that's why I'm so fond of those in particular :-p
