Today I met someone named Betty...and she was a 4-year-old girl. For once, I didn't immediately think "old lady name" when I heard it. It was actually cute on her and suited her well.

Do you think Betty/Bettie is due for a comeback? Or is it too old-fashioned?

It's adorable, but I'm not sure how it--as a standalone name--would age.

I prefer it as a nickname for 'Elizabeth', and think it could stand a comeback in that form. YMMV, though.

I love it. I really like it spelled Bette.

I like it as a nickname for Elizabeth.

I think those mid-20th century names are going to start coming back in the next 10 years or so. Alice, Matilda, Charlotte, etc. are all pretty popular right now. I could see Linda, Sally, Joan, etc. coming up in popularity soon-ish.

I think Betty and Betsy are both cute.

I prefer Betsy over Betty, but I still like Betty. I would probably audibly squee if I ever met a child Betty!

My Grandma's name is Betty Isobel. It suits her but to me it's a grandma name! I'm going to use Isobel as a middle name.

I think Betty is nice, despite the fact my gran's sister is called that. And I'm not overly fond of that side my extended family :p

That being said I'm a huge 'Sunday' name fan. So I'd have to go for Elizabeth and then shorten to Betty :)

I hope Veronica comes back too then :)

But seriously, I don't care for it as a stand alone name, but as a nickname for Bettina or Elizabeth or even maybe Babette, it's cute!

you never know. to me Evelyn was like the epitome of old lady names, never would have foreseen the comeback-with-a-vengeance it made. I don't think much could surprise me anymore, regarding old lady names.

I had an instructor named Betty this year. She was 30ish and from Africa. It really made the name seem younger. I read something about the 3-generation rule. Where a baby's parents won't name the kid after their parents because their names sound old as do their grandparents. But their great-grandparents names sound cool and young again.

It's kind of cute, but I don't think it ages well. I see it as more of a nickname.

Beti (the Welsh form of Betty, and pronounced the same way) is still popular in some areas of Wales.

I think it's due for a comeback because I've really started to like it, and I'm assuming if I've started liking it, other people probably have as well. My tastes aren't that unique. :P
