Beryl was a pretty common name way back at the beginning of the 20th century. It's pronounced barrel. A lot of the old names are coming back now. It is a gem. I like it.

It's quite a common name in England but among the over 60s! I actually have a student called Beryl who is a muslim girl. I don't know if that's relevant but I wondered if it was having a rebirth in some places, she's 17
