Does anyone here know any exotic, different and or unusual names that aren't too common? Names in different languages that don't seen light of day often but are kind of interesting or just plain weird?

Like my name is Maori- Waimirirangi (pronounced rolling your 'R's: Y-miri-rungi. The 'ang' sounding like 'ung' from 'hung'.), I have a cousin named Netalini (pronounced Natalini) and another cousin named Wikitoria (pronounced rolling the R), also Maori.

Maybe something like that (Not Maori necessarily of course). So, thanks :)

Most of the names I like are unusual or 'exotic'. But then my name is Zahra. ;)

For boys I like:
Yero (pronounced Yeh-ro, it's West African/Fulani), there was a popular warrior named Yero Mama
One great name I heard yesterday is Ossian, it is Celtic for fawn apparently but also has big literary connotations

Girls:
Lulua, Lulu for short, Pearl in Arabic
Kenza, Treasure in Arabic

My son's middle name is Taliesin, which is Welsh. A lady I work with is called Olenka, which is Polish and I love.

Also Eastern European name love!

Hello fellow Aucklander!

Before we found out the gender of our twins I tried really hard to convince hubby of Kaipara and Ripiro for middle names. I do also love Awhina as a middle name for a girl but with the chance of moving to Canada and her being "a whiner"... well...

The French horn player at band is Rangimakehu, goes by Rangi.

Wh = 'f' in some dialects of Maori.

OP: is the translation of your name something like water that caresses the sky?

This post is right up my alley but I don't have any unusual names off the top of my head.

How do you pronounce Maori? May-or-ee?

Netalini and Wikitoria are beautiful! I wonder if Wikitoria is pissed about the advent of Wikipedia, though... And if people make fun of Netalini for sounding like a type of pasta...

I don't think the OPs name is Maori.. Maori is the term used to describe native people of New Zealand :)

I'm don't typically love super unusual names but Waimirirangi is lovely (and Miri is such a cute nickname!)
