Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar announced the name of their 20th child (Sadly, she had a miscarriage). They named the baby Jubilee Shalom
What do you think?

I think it is funny the only other place I have recently seen Shalom as a middle name is from this blogger: http://www.girlsgonechild.net/ and she and Michelle Duggar have to be polar opposites.

Personally, while I actually kind of like Jubilee, I strongly associate Shalom with Jewish men, and it sounds weird to me on a non-Jewish female. Also, I think of Shalom Auslander and Foreskin's Lament, so yeah...

I think Jubilee is a ridiculous first name. Shalom is very pretty though I don't think it would work as a name.

Jubilee reminds me of X-Men and Shalom reminds me of the supermodel.

I was wondering if I was the only one who kept thinking about X-Men and Jubilee. I keep picturing that yellow coat! Gah.

I think all of those kids have stupid names.

Jubilee...were they fans of X-Men during the '90s?

I like Shalom, but that's probably because one of my best friends in middle school was named Shalom.

Jubilee is a grocery store chain, at least here in Minnesota. I think the miscarriage is God's way of saying, "you've had enough now stop it." this family drives me absolutely nuts for so many reasons.

She's had like 3 other miscarriages and two or three uterine prolapses. Jfc.

Also, Jubilee is a restaurant here.

I feel guilty for saying it, but I really like the name - Jubilee is a total guilty pleasure for me, and I love Shalom. I'm kind of side-eyeying Shalom for a non-Jew, though.

Neither of those are names.

LOL, don't tell that to Sholem Aleichem, Shalom Auslander or Sholem Asch.

Shalom Auslander is a very interesting name (not necessarily in a good or a bad way). Hello Foreigner. The first time I saw it, I thought it was a book or something.

Heh - I think he's from NY, but it definitely has a ring to it.

I'm really surprised they chose Shalom, even as a middle name.

WTF is Jubilee? They did so well on some of the names, but then they have Jinger and Jordyn-Grace and such. They're wasting the opportunity to use J names like Julia.

From: [identity profile] adamantplatypus.livejournal.com
Eh, I don't think I'd ever name a kid Julia, even in their situation. It's not my style. But Jubilee? No.

IA. Have they even used Jessica?

From: [identity profile] schexyschteve.livejournal.com
No, but they do have a Jessa. But then again, similar names didn't stop them from using Jana, Joy Anna and Johannah, or Jeremiah and Jedidiah.

Don't they have one kid that breaks the chain? Like Mackenzie or something?

Mackenzie is their grandaughter's name hahaha.

I guess it's time to stop having kids when you run out of decent names to name them, hmm?

I don't think it's a terrible name. I've heard worse. But I hope for the love of Godiva chocolate they're done having kids. That woman is going to kill herself if she keeps this up.

I don't think they're ever going to declare themselves "done having kids." I've gathered that they have a moral objection to that (actively trying not to have kids, I mean). Still, she must be close to menopause now...

My friend's niece is named Jubilee. I think it's a sweet name, although not my taste.

The Duggars are very old testament-y type Christians though. I know they don't eat pork, and the older girls occasionally seen wearing a star of David necklace.

The names Jubilee and Shalom are so wildly different, it's hard to believe they were put together.

Technically they're similar because they mean joy and peace. But they don't sound right together, especially in that family. Ugh.

I actually really like Jubilee-- when I was in elementary school I was determined to name my future son Jubilation (nn Jube) after a character in a book I loved, and jubilation is still my favorite word. :)

From: [identity profile] cremepuff.livejournal.com
Wasn't there also a character in Lil' Abner named Jubilation? Or was that what you were referring to? :)

From: [identity profile] eveyalecia.livejournal.com
I don't actually know what Lil' Abner is :) I was referring to the book Mattimeo (part of Brian Jacques' Redwall series). The Jubilation in that book was a hedgehog ^_^

Jubilee isn't my taste, but it honestly doesn't surprise me that they came up with it. I've heard the word used in a Christian context before.

That's really out there for them. I love Shalom though. I feel bad that she had a miscarriage, but I'm kind of glad there is not actually a child out there named Jubilee Shalom. Maybe had it come full term they would have named it something more "normal"

From: [identity profile] harinakshi.livejournal.com
Please don't flame me for this. But my honest opinion is the name is absolutely terrible but it doesn't matter cause the baby never really was. *shrugs* Despite that they'll probably still go on like they have 20 kids even though they DON'T and it's not like it was a full term baby she lost. I'm sure miscarriages are tough to go through, but I know a lady who gave birth to a stillborn and I think that is way worse than a miscarriage of a fetus so it actually kind of annoys me that they named it. But, everyone grieves differently, yea yea. Just my thoughts. Stupid name, stupid family.

I might attract some flames but... I don't think it quite matters what they name this one, as it's not, um, alive. I think the name is probably due a tribute, a celebration sorta... It's less a name someone can take seriously and more to acknowledge her presence at all.

I secretly like Shalom.

You know...for an unborn child, I actually rather like it. Like someone else said, perhaps they'd have chosen a more "normal" name if she'd lived, but I think it's sweet to name her something so happy, to reflect their short time with her.

(That said, GAAAAAH, they need to go awaaaaay!)

So.. what are they going to call the show now? 20 kids and counting, or 19? : / Man this whole situation is so weird. I have to agree with the others that the name Jubilee seems ok to me because the child passed away, and "Jubilee" makes me think of celebrations-- so a tribute to her, like daydream11 said.

I don't want to get too enthusiastic about it, because it is the name of a child they lost, but honestly, I love it. Shalom is already one of my favourite names that I would love to use, and Jubilee Shalom is cute, and fun, and really pretty. I love it.

WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT 20 KIDS?!
Maybe it's just me, but I think that woman is fecking nuts.
I don't know why anyone would want to butcher their body like that??
Crazy.
